The latest release on Balkan Connection welcomes Mou back to the label for a brand new single.
The Egyptian producer first appeared on the Serbian imprint in September of 2014 when he released his first single entitled ‘Ankaa’. Mou has since delivered originals and remixes for Particles and now returns to Balkan Connection for a new single entitled ‘Light Weather’ alongside remixes from Ewan Rill and qoob.
Mou’s aforementioned work for Particles came in conjunction with Michael A so ‘Light Weather’ essentially represents just his second solo production under the moniker and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Getting underway with a deep and sultry groove it immediately conjures up a cool vibe. Lots of intricate electronics and soft, bubbly textures soon encompass the framework and carry it on a smooth ride into the break. A pixie-esque mood builds through the interlude with well crafted melodies creating a mysterious air. The groove’s re-entry is silky smooth and totally fitting of the vibe which just gets all the more heavenly by tracks end. Beautiful work from Mou.
The first interpretation of ‘Light Weather’ is provided by Ewan Rill who is making his 65th appearance on Balkan Connection. The Russian producer has been one of BC’s most consistent artists over the years and has also delivered great work for his newly formed Sever Records imprint this year. Ewan always brings a fresh, club friendly approach to any remix and that’s exactly what’s he’s done here. The dreamy vibe from the original has translated well but with a touch more drive and a distinct nose for the dance floor. The tracks effortless flow and smooth lines make for such a nice listen which complements the groovier more thematic original quite nicely. Great remix from Ewan.
The second and final interpretation of ‘Light Weather’ is provided by qoob who are making their third appearance on Balkan Connection. Initially both based in Russia the qoob duo (Kirill Andreev + Eugene Maltsev) now calls New York and Russia home with Kirill moving to NYC earlier this year. They’ve remained quite busy with recent EPs for Lowbit Records and PHW Elements along with remix productions for Balkan Connection and Mistique Music. Their crossover sound is always a welcome addition to any project and they’ve closed the release out with a feel good remix that’s perfectly dialed in for the waning summer season. With a wonky take on the lead elements and a bevy of interesting designs I think qoob have delivered what might be the best remix of their career. It’s not a radical departure from the original but there’s enough of a twist in all the right places that it’s just spectacular. Gorgeous work once again from one of the best production duos in the underground. A great release from Balkan Connection once again. Don’t miss it.
