MUUI – Only When It Rains (Outside The Box Music)

Eelke Kleijn’s Outside The Box Music returns this week with a new EP from Patrik Carrera aka MUUI. The Australian producer first appeared on the label in February of this year with his remix of Eelke’s ‘Kitten of Mass Destruction’. Patrik’s new EP for Outside The Box is entitled ‘Only When It Rains’ and it comes with two brand new original productions and a remix form Steve Ward.

The title track leads the EP off with some gorgeously deep and funky vibes.  The well shaped bass line in conjunction with some spacious drums and vibrant sounds form an amazing dance floor groove. Rhythmic tones and subtly rising atmospheres carry the record through a smooth climax which is very tastefully done and should go down extremely well on an educated dance floor.  A Dub of ‘Only When It Rains’ has also been provided which focuses on an even deeper and funkier groove with some trippier electronics providing some great moments along the way. You can’t go wrong with either mix here as both are bang on the money.

The lone remix comes from another superb Aussie producer Steve Ward who has been writing incredibly strong material on Gem, Tronic and Bush of late. This is Steve’s first appearance  on Outside The Box and he’s delivered the perfect tech house complement to the original. A pristinely produced groove  with a nice dance floor roll sits at the foundation and gives the track huge momentum early on. As the track builds a wide array of drums combined with rhythmic stabs and short impactful drops combine for a truly rocking dance floor construction. Should be equally massive with tech house and techno DJs alike.

The second original here is entitled ‘While You Were Sleeping’ and it closes the EP out very strong. MUUI’s carved out another wicked groove that’s spacious and full of low end character. Faint vocal hooks, bubbly synths and aquatic sounding electronics provide tons of aural candy and work in perfect unison with tracks foundation. The well textured stabs modulate ever so slightly during the main drop and build some tastefully restrained tension as a result which makes the reappearance of the groovy framework just that much more enjoyable. Excellent work from MUUI on both cuts here and a top notch remix from Steve Ward. Highly Recommended. Release Promo Hype Chart Top 25
