Balkan Connection’s 214th release is out this week and it features the return of Neftali Blasko to the label. The Mexican producer last appeared on the label just a few weeks back with a remix of Gav Fraser’s ‘Black Lite’ which earned support from Cid Inc. Neftali’s new single is entitled ‘Onwards’ and it comes with two sensational remixes from Andrea Cassino and Dark Soul Project.
Neftali’s original starts the package off really strong with a great club friendly groove. Backed with a big, warm bass line that carries a good amount of bounce and energy straight away. Long atmospheric sweeps and subtle electronic stabs carry the track to the main break. Some nice modulation on the framework combined with continuing atmosphere builds some nice tension during the drop and brings a stripped down section of the groove back in. Finishing with a slow escalating rise in hypnotic tones Neftali’s original delivers a nice climax that should go down quite well on the dance floor.
The first remix comes from Andrea Cassino who is well known for being part of the highly touted Cassino & Laben production duo that began in 2001. The duo appeared on a wide array of quality techno and progressive house labels which included: Alchemy, Proton Music, Particles, Armada Music and Dual Musik. In recent years Andrea has gone on to more solo productions and it’s really been paying off as he’s had several great releases on Baires, Lowbit and Balkan Connection. This is Andrea’s second appearance on Balkan and he’s delivered a fabulous deep rework of ‘Onwards’. Filled with lovely hypnotic keys, rolling grooves and a blissful breakdown this is certainly one of Andrea’s most gorgeous creations to date.
The package is closed out with a remix from one of Argentina’s finest Dark Soul Project. Ivan Jamie aka Dark Soul Project has been incredibly prolific over the last year with releases on Sudbeat, Flow, Crossfrontier Audio and of course his own Baires Records imprint. DSP’s remix here marks his first appearance on Balkan Connection and he’s provided a big remix of ‘Onwards’. Dark Soul Project’s driving percussive sound has turned ‘Onwards’ into an absolute monster of a record. With waves of shimmering percussion, distorted vocal samples, widescreen atmospheres and a bang on the money breakdown this one is a dance floor frenzy waiting to happen. A great release from Balkan Connection and certainly one of their best so far this year. Highly recommended.
