The latest offering on BCSA finds the label boss Nicholas Van Orton back in the spotlight with his new double a-side release entitled ‘Even / Funktitude’.
The Argentinean producer has already made his mark in 2015 with a remix of Franz Lehmann’s ‘Verloren Melodie’ released through Massive Harmony in early February. Nicholas’ first two originals of the year look to be his best ever work and showcase a deeper, more enchanting sound.
The EPs first selection ‘Even’ begins with a groovy, atmospheric intro which takes you smoothly into the first break. Here a lovely melodic theme and esoteric vocals get introduced which lifts the mood of the piece several notches. The well shaped and wonderfully textured groove then drops back in and subtle harmonies begin to develop in the foreground. The emotion builds throughout the first act and carries the track into the main break where the vocal returns along with the delicate sensibilities surrounding it. It’s a poignant moment and perhaps one of Nicholas’ career best musical creations.
The companion piece ‘Funktitude’ as the name suggests adds a bit more funk while staying true to the warm, textural vibe of the release. Nicholas’ acidic groove is marvellous; full of great shape, texture and colour. The main break introduces a cross cultural theme which sounds fabulous against that acidic underbelly. Muted beats build anticipation before the full groove drops back in for what should be a great moment when aired in a club. Two gorgeous creations from Nicholas and a top notch release for his Balkan Connection South America. Don’t miss it.
