Omar El Gamal – Keep Calm / Tweak Engine (3rd Avenue)

Omar El Gamal returns to 3rd Avenue this week for his first official EP. The Miami based producer first appeared on the label with his remix of Ziger’s ‘Free My Soul’ which was released in May of this year. Omar spent several years living in Montreal, Canada where he honed his production skills using inspiration from the many DJs who frequent Montreal’s world renown club scene. He recently returned to Circus Nightclub in Montreal to open for Hernan Cattaneo in early July and has picked up his production pace quite a bit this year with releases on 3rd Avenue, 99percent and Liquid Grooves. Omar’s new EP for 3rd Avenue is entitled ‘Keep Calm / Tweak Engine’ looks to be Omar’s best work to date.

‘Keep Calm’ is first and has a really sultry, laid back vibe that breathes quality. Long panoramic atmospheres get interwoven in the backdrop as the powerful groove begins to take shape. The driving style drums complement the intoxicating atmosphere really well and push the track forward with nice momentum to the main drop. The atmosphere grows even larger here and builds to an all encompassing boil which reveals powerful groove along with some spacey electronics which sound absolutely fabulous. The second half of the record is one of the more enchanting pieces of music we’ve heard in a while, it’s absolutely beautiful and belongs in any diehard progressive house fans collection. Hernan Cattaneo thinks quite highly of it as well as he’s already featured the track on his Resident Delta FM radioshow!

The companion piece ‘Tweak Engine’ is another powerful and very percussive construction from Omar. A brooding groove sits at the foundation while an incredibly catchy, whistle-like lead and sections of clap clusters complement the framework perfectly. The real standout though is the main lead; it’s just incredibly soulful and seems to keep the tracks momentum building throughout. The subtle energy that gets created during the drop is so tastefully restrained it’s no wonder that Hernan is one of the EPs biggest supporters. Two classy productions from Omar and another standout release from 3rd Avenue which has also received a banner feature from Beatport! Highly Recommended.
