Peter Wagner has long been considered one of Portugal’s best underground producers. In addition to appearing on Iboga, Baroque, Flow and Movement Recordings Peter also manages the excellent 24 Hours imprint. His unique DJ talents have seen him perform with Dave Clarke, Umek, Oliver Huntemann, Stephan Bodzin, John Acquaviva, Secret Cinema, Egbert, Nicole Moudaber and Thomas Schumacher along with many other top techno talents. Belgian label Sound Avenue has never been resigned to releasing a particular sound and thus have never been pigeon-holed as a progressive or deep house label. The imprint somehow manages to move seamlessly between releases all while keeping quite a varied sound. That trend continues here for the labels 35th overall release which sees Peter Wagner making his debut appearance. The Portuguese producer’s first single for Sound Avenue is entitled ‘I Can’t Hear You’ and it comes with remixes from: Dimitri Nakov and Johnson & Menichelli.

Peter’s Original Mix leads the release off with a heavy groove that’s well complemented with metallic hits and trippy vocal elements. As the techno inspired percussion gets dropped in the psychedelic influence becomes more apparent and the vibe is all the better for it. Peter’s futuristic sound design captivates your senses mightily before the lead collection of bell-like tones brightens the piece immensely. Undeniably hypnotic the complex sequence evokes a wide range of emotions making it one of the most unique leads you’ll hear all year. A true genre busting production from Peter.

The first remix is supplied by Dimitri Nakov who is making his first appearance on Sound Avenue. The Ibiza based DJ/Artist is much loved for his many island sets and has also been a guest on John Digweed’s Transitions Radio show. Dimitri also has an impressive discography having not only worked with DJ Sasha but also appearing on two of today’s finest imprints Bedrock Records and Tronic. For his ‘I Can’t Hear You’ interpretation Dimitri has stripped the production right down and delivered his own unique club vision of the piece. The reinvented lead tones add a new sense of rhythm and when combined with the tight drummy framework the result is an incredibly infectious groove. Add to that a monumental breakdown with an exhilarating build and you’ve got dance floor fireworks in the making.

The second and final remix on the release comes from Johnson & Menichelli who are also making their first appearance on Sound Avenue. The German duo have both had remarkable careers on the European festival circuit. German producer Thomas Johnson was part of the well known Fusi & Johnson, Johnson & Haske and Auricular production alias’ and has also worked with Jerome Isma-ae, Tomcraft, Spektre & Ticon. Marco Menichelli who is also from Germany is better known as Sun Project which was one of the primary acts on the renowned Spirit Zone label. Johnson & Menichelli began collaborating in 2011 with their initial productions coming courtesy of Baroque Records and Sprout. For their ‘I Can’t Hear You’ interpretation the German duo have crafted a wobbly, techno masterpiece. The rhythmic bass tones come with a mashy roll and the poignant main stab just enhances the undulating groove that much more. The tension filled main break is laced with raspy synth hooks, waves of percussion, trippy vocal gates and a piercing tone that eventually summons the crushing beats to drop back in for what will be a huge moment on the dance floor.
