The 79th release on Nick Quadrat’s BQ Recordings is out this week and it features the debut of Phoebus on the label. Antonis Georgiadis aka Phoebus hails from Greece and has been a regular contributor to Perfect Sessions and Julian Rodriguez’s Massive Harmony Records. Phoebus’ debut EP for BQ Recordings is entitled ‘Daydreaming’ and it comes with two brand new original productions.
The title track leads the EP off with a big, menacing kick and some ultra processed drum elements. It quite a sinister intro and once the hypnotic rhythms and phasing vocal pads drop in the cumulative effect is quite devastating. The track has a big presence about it early on but it certainly grows even larger as it progresses. The magic moment comes when a soulful female vocal hook gets introduced . This pushes the track to a new and even more epically charged level and provides an amazing second half conclusion. The companion piece ‘Losing Wait’ is a darker, funkier piece that proves to be a great complement to ‘Daydreaming’. Filled with big wobbly bass stabs, sinister electronics and spooky vocal elements this is a dark progressive house lover’s dream. It certainly sounds a lot like something John Digweed would have played about 10 years ago and should still fair quite well in today’s underground. Two solid cuts from Phoebus and another great signing for BQ Recordings.
