The latest release on Balkan Connection welcomes Platunoff to the label for his debut single.

Platunoff - My Religion

The Russian producer first appeared almost a year ago to the day on Abstract Space’s RoboGen 2.0 compilation. The next year saw Platunoff add mighity to his discography with a key release on Clinique Recordings, Electronic Tree and Reelaux Digital. Now as 2016 begins we see Platunoff with his debut single on Balkan Connection alongside remixes from Matias Chilano and Jelly For The Babies.

Platunoff’s playful melodic sound delighted progressive house fans last year and ‘My Religion’ although similar does offer a slightly less distinct approach. Gone are the boisterous melodies in favour of deeper grooves and haunting motifs, particularity during the main break which might be set for a few goosebump moments. It’s shifty melodies create a lovely story and with a sequence of smooth chord changes leading the way push to the track to a great finale.

The first interpretation of ‘My Religion’ is provided by Matias Chilano who is making his 18th appearance on the label. The Argentinean artist continued his underground dominance in 2015 with an impressive run of releases on Dopamine Music, Golden Wings and Soundteller Records. Matias’ more prolific ways of past years was lifted to a degree and now he’s more in demand than ever. His atmospheric yet groovy approach has yet to be replicated and he’s turned in a superb interpretation of ‘My Religion’ to kick off 2016. With a more stripped down and techno inspired approach Matias expertly works in the key elements while adding his own hypnotic drift. From its dubby stabs to expansive feel there’s a lot to like here and a solemn main break proves to be the ideal centerpiece, with its haunting atmospheres and granular decay. It dials you in for a smooth conclusion which remains dub friendly and quite indistinct in the melody department. A great alternative to the original from Matias.

The second and final interpretation of ‘My Religion’ is provided by Jelly For The Babies who is making his 47th appearance on Balkan Connection. The Serbian producer and Purr Music label boss had a fabulous 2015, where he continued to purvey all things deep and groovy on Submarine Vibes and Heavenly Bodies. For his ‘My Religion’ interpretation he keeps things cool and classy with a smooth, hypnotic rendition that’s perfectly dialed in for late night play. It’s intricate groove is filled with warm bass swells and subtle melodies the latter of which make for a smooth and serene finale. For an artist as prolific as Jelly For The Babies it’s amazing how he’s able to turn out such great productions on a consistent basis, but he manages to do it and is another one of the underground’s unsung heroes. A great mix to cap of the release which gets Balkan Connection off to a great start in 2016.
