Travis MacDonald’s Agara Music returns this week after a nearly two month hiatus with a brand new EP from label artist Roberto Traista.
The Hungarian producer has been one of Agara’s primary artists with 12 originals spread out over four releases. His most recent work, the five track ‘Sky Drops’ EP was a cutting edge collage of futuristic techno and regarded by many as his best work to date. Roberto’s latest offering ‘Long Lost Memories’ features two brand new originals along with remixes from Beat Syndrome and Mauro Norti.
Roberto’s moody production tendencies have always been incredibly strong and ‘Long Lost Memories’ showcases them quite well. It’s brooding underbelly of well sculpted bass tones and stark atmospheric backdrop paint a strong emotional picture. It’s not a record that rests on a few ideas for eight minutes either as a quirkier second half theme just adds to the intense journey. Great production from Roberto. The lone remix of ‘Long Lost Memories’ is provided by Hamed Safi aka Beat Syndrome who is making his sixth appearance on Agara Music. The Canadian producer has stayed true to the techno leanings of the original and stripped the track down into a minimal dance floor beast. Hamed’s powerful groove is accented with unique sonic qualities and drummy rhythms which results in a cleaner more energetic vision of Robert’s moody original. Two great pieces from two unique producers and both could do damage on the right dance floors.
The second original included on the release ‘Depressed’ sees Robert focusing on a mutated piece of modern techno. A raspy sonic canvas lays down another gut wrenching vibe which Robert’s powerful drum elements bring to life quite nicely. Cinematic pads change the mood and scope of the piece as the breakdown commences and a brighter second half completes a satisfying emotional journey. The lone remix of ‘Depressed’ is provided by Mauro Norti who is returning to Agara Music for his sixth appearance. The Belarus based producer has delivered three original productions for the label in the past and his interpretation of ‘Depressed’ marks his first remix. Mauro’s elaborate style is always met with praise throughout the melodic techno community and his highly detailed production style sounds fabulous here again. Adorned with crunchy electronics Mauro’s hypnotic groove carries some nice momentum and the slow burning atmospheric drift adds a new found emotional touch. A beautiful rework from Mauro and a cutting edge release from Agara Music who are giving us a snapshot of the future with this one.
