US producer Sean Ray returns to System Recordings this week for a new single. The US label has become Sean’s second home in recent years; the Los Angeles based producer has eight appearances on System and his ninth looks to be his best yet. A long time fixture of the Los Angeles club Sean has many accolades to his credit including the Los Angeles Music Awards’ Unanimous Choice for DJ of the Year in 2007 and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards’ Best Techno/Electronica Song in 2009. Sean’s new single for System is entitled ‘Synthoma’ and it comes with remixes from: Oliver Lieb and Delshad.
Fans of Sean’s productions usually note that he a very accessible blend of sounds that always seem to be perfect for the dance floor. ‘Synthoma’ begins with a vibrant, percussive groove that’s well complemented with harmonic stabs which ignite a great sense of rhythm and swing. As the tension begins to build a buzzy lead slowly fades in to the mix which charges the energy even further. What follows are several transitions and quick drops which carry the piece through a big second act that’s full cool themes and floor rocking ideas. The constant progression of the track is what makes it work so well. There isn’t one big idea that’s rehashed over and over again but rather several that are strung together perfectly. A smashing track from Sean and also our all time favourite of his to date.
The first remix is supplied by German techno legend Oliver Lieb who we have been fans of since we first heard his work for Sven Vath’s Harthouse label in the early 90’s. Oliver has also been a firm favourite of some of the world’s biggest DJ’s over the years; namely Sasha & Digweed who have featured many of his productions in their live sets and storied Global Underground CDs. This is Oliver’s second appearance on System with the first coming in May of last year with a remix of Rob Benninger’s ‘Evil Air’. For his ‘Synthoma’ interpretation he’s taken Sean’s funky hooks and reinvented them over top of one of his meticulously processed grooves. The middle section of the record really stands out for us with it’s warm, building atmosphere and general rushy vibes. Great stuff from Oliver and a big staple of our Hype Chart in recent weeks as it currently sits at #16.
The final remix on the package comes from Delshad who is making his first appearance on System. Navid Nilchian aka Delshad hails from Los Angeles and his discography includes some great outings on Calamity of Noise and Tape Deck Music. Delshad’s ‘Synthoma’ interpretation rounds the package out nicely with an up-tempo club rework that really rocks. The momentous stabs, rolling bass lines and hypnotic trails all meld together perfectly here for a real crossover main room / underground smash. Great stuff from Delshad and another very well thought out release from our friends at System Recordings . Highly Recommended.
