Sound Avenue’s eclectic Crossfade Sounds imprint returns this week with another exciting artist debut on the label. Sebastian Markiewicz hails from Poland but is now based in the UK, he’s best known for his Compatible Music imprint which has featured releases from Phil Kieran, Sirenize, Ron Costa, Kyodai, Two Hand Salute and Sebastian’s own productions as well. John Digweed has been one of Sebastian’s biggest supporters in recent years and has featured his music on ‘Transitions’ several times. ‘Vitamin Sun’ is Sebastian’s new EP for Crossfade Sounds and it comes at a time when the label has been pushing their musical boundaries and having great success because of it.
The title track is quite a unique techno production. The warm bass tones provide some powerful drive while the tough beats and metallic electronics add just the right amount of vibrancy. Some heavily processed vocal gates add some irresistible hooks as the track pushes toward the main break. Here the atmospheric tension rises and with it so does the anticipation for the returning groove. The stomping beats soon reappear with some newly introduced not to mention magically warped electronics which add some exciting new hooks for a strong second act and great finish.
The second piece ‘Deep Moon’ begins with a much deeper sounding sensibility. if there was ever a track made for a late night, back room set then this is it. It’s a marvellously hypnotic, almost dub techno vibe that Sebastian has crafted here. It subtly builds to monster proportions with great use of modulation and a trippy as hell breakdown that’s going to work wonders on the dance floor.
The EP finishes with ‘Night Watcher’ which is the most progressive oriented track on the release. A bed of bubbly well shaped textures makes up a wicked low end while a barrage of vocal and rhythmic stabs complement the framework. The delicate backdrop of melodies and soaring atmospheres rises to a nice climax around the 5 minute mark before the track gets stripped right down to just the rumbling groove. It’s one of the biggest moments in the track for us, there’s something very powerful about the groove when it comes back in and should also get a great reaction on the dance floor. Overall this is another sensational EP from Crossfade Sounds and another extremely talented signing in Sebastian Markiewicz being added to the roster. Highly Recommended.
