Silinder & Shane Robinson – Drifting (Sleepless Nights Recordings)

Sleepless Nights Recordings returns this week with a brand new single from Silinder and Shane Robinson.

Silinder & Shane Robinson - Drifting

The Irish duo have both been highly successful in their solo careers and now collaborate for the first time on ‘Drifting’. Seems fitting for it to come out on one of Ireland’s premier progressive house labels and the complement of mixes from Jaap Ligthart and Soulfinder & Vincent Furlong are stunning.

The release gets under way with the original mix and you’re immediately drawn in to it’s deep and lazy groove. There’s a lovely melodic component indistinctly lingering there and it foreshadows the brilliance to come. Twinkly synths and subtle acid hooks slowly work their way into the framework while a hazy coat of atmosphere continues to lift your senses higher. As the track reaches the main break that radiant glow heightens for what could be a lovely sunrise type moment. The tastefully restrained return of the kick is magical and that next minute or so of the record is maybe it’s best with a slow and methodical build to full reinstatement of the groove. Wonderful work from Silinder and Shane.

The first interpretation of ‘Drifting’ is provided by Jaap Ligthart who is making his first appearance on Sleepless Nights. It’s been an amazing year for the Dutch producer which has been highlighted by releases on Manual Music, Perspectives Digital and Selador. For his ‘Drifting’ interpretation Jaap has upped the tempo and energy all while conveying the gorgeous, drifting motifs to resounding effect. It’s got that 4AM flying vibe which could lift any dance floor a notch or two higher, and once all the atmosphere gets washed away following the break your left with just the pumping groove which should generate a massive reaction. Brilliant remix from Jaap who is currently on fire.

Jaap has also provided a second ‘Hook 2’ version which presents a new melodic motif that dials in the summer vibe in a more distinctive way. Definitely feeling a beachside atmosphere on this one and a lovely addition to the release as well.

The final interpretation is provided by Soulfinder & Vincent Furlong who are making their sixth appearance on their home imprint. The Irish duo was responsible for a few gems in 2014. Their remixes of AudioStorm and Biologik & Shane Robinson remain standouts and they’ve delivered something exceptional here once again. It’s minimalistic beginnings set the stage perfectly for a storyboard of euphoric melody, which expands exponentially on the motifs from the original. The first act teases the melodies in over a timeless sounding groove. This leads you with great anticipation to a break of warm bassy swells, which flows through a joyous rush of atmospheres and melodies, eventually collided for the ultimate cosmic experience. What a way to end the release, just magical sounding stuff from the two Irish producers. A top shelf release from Sleepless Nights once again. Don’t miss it.
