SissCok – Loin de La EP (Otrement Music)

This week sees this launch of a very promising electronic music imprint. Otrement Music was created by French producers Seb Dhajje and MEka. The two had worked together in the past when MEka released his ‘La Pensee Du Jour’ on Seb’s Tetsuko Records back in 2011. A strong friendship between the two producers was quickly formed and their similar visions eventually led to the creation of Otrement Music. The labels first release features a brand new single from Sisscok which includes remixes from Jibe and Joff Logartz.

Corentin Guillemet aka SissCok began his production career in 2012 with a string of releases on ADRO. The French producer quickly developed a unique melodic techno sound. Inlab Recordings then selected his ‘Cautionless’ production to be part of the labels ‘Spring Selection 2013’ Sampler. ‘Cautionless’ saw the SissCok sound mature even further and his first single for Otrement is perhaps his most accomplished work yet. ‘Loin de La’ is one of those productions where the contrast of twisted electronics and blissful harmonies seems absolutely perfect. Backed by a spacious, punchy groove the electrically charged synth lines modulate with a wonderfully effervescent texture. This grinding line is quite riveting and the accompanying keys and sheets of melodious haze are about as tastefully done and emotionally stimulating as you can imagine. Brilliant work from SissCok.

The first remix is provided by Jibe who is one of the more inspiring artists working in the burgeoning melodic techno scene. The French producer has seen his studio work featured on Cinematique, Grrreat Recordings and Inlab Recordings all is the last two years. It’s quite a meticulous discography that he’s built over the course of his career and his interpretation of ‘Loin de La’ is exceptional as well. Jibe’s tough beats and warped grooves carve out a wicked foundation and the reworked melodic elements cast a dimly lit, late night vibe that’s very inviting. It proves to be a great alternative to the original and also a very worthy piece for the dance floor.

The second and final remix is provided by Joff Logartz. In addition to managing the popular IRM Records label Joff has had his own productions featured on Connaisseur Recordings, MNL and Inlab Recordings. His most recent remix of Terje Saether’s ‘Backward Glace’ showcased a deep and richly texture sound that was absolutely fabulous. For his ‘Loin de La’ rework Joff has crafted a mid tempo techno interpretation that remolds the best elements from the original into something that is deeply emotional and also quite haunting. The funky grooves are tailor made for the dance floor and the second half climax is perhaps the releases most invigorating moment. An exceptional first offering from Otrement Music with each track delivering its own special bit of magic. Looking forward to seeing what comes next from this exciting new imprint.
