A. Skomoroh & Nic Bax – Bla (Blendwerk)

One of my favourite electronica / techno labels returns this week for their ninth overall release. E-Spectro & Hells Kitchen created the Blendwerk imprint just about a year ago. The label has put out eight carefully thought out releases over that stretch and continues to be one of the most interesting imprints around. For Blendwerk’s ninth release we see A. Skomoroh & Nic Bax returning to the label for a for a brand new single entitled ‘Bla’ which includes a remix from Logiztik Sounds.

Nic Bax is Dutch born but now based in Germany. He first appeared on Blendwerk with his ‘Sinn’ single which was released in September of 2013. Ukrainian producer A. Skomoroh also appeared on the same release as a remixer so it’s quite cool to see this two creative minds coming together for this single. The result of their first studio collaboration ‘Bla’ is a laid back melodic techno groover with a very unique vocal. The meticulously tailored beats and spiritual vocals set a great atmosphere early and as the track builds a nice complement of melodies adds some heartfelt emotion. The vocal is the prominent element here though and although it’s certainly an acquired taste it could cause quite a reaction on the right dance floor. There is also a dub version included which I suspect most DJs will prefer. It comes with the same great elements as the original and with the absence of the vocal the well shaped bass tones and melodic bells are much more dynamic sounding.

The lone remix is provided by Logiztik Sounds who is returning to Blendwerk for his second appearance. The Uruguayan producer remixed E-Spectro and Hells Kitchen ‘Agora’ which was released in November of last year and he has since appeared on Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music. For his ‘Bla’ interpretation Logiztik Sounds has delivered a superb melodic techno complement to the original. He’s used the vocal elements quite well and amidst his outstanding array of intricate sounds and glitchy effects it sounds quite fabulous. The groove carries enough shifts and cool transitions that it stays really fresh throughout and the sound design is not only unique but meticulously crafted. An excellent remix from Logiztik Sounds and my favourite version on the release as well. Cool release from Blendwerk and looking forward to what they do next.
