The initial release of Smart Wave’s ‘Remorses’ came courtesy of Baroque Digital in late 2012. The label included it on their massive ‘Baroque Profile 2012’ compilation which featured tracks from the likes of Luke Chable, Shiloh, Fiord, Inkfish and more. This week sees the label putting out a brand new remix pack for the track which includes interpretations from: Yuji Ono, Paul Lennar, Cyril Luzin and Cuboidz.
Leading the release off Japan’s Yuji Ono turns in a stomping interpretation that comes with his ultra processed production skills. The titanium beats and aquatic electronics soon make way for a lovely piano and heartfelt breakdown. It creates the perfect sense of calm before a nice build reveals the punchy, energetic beats once more for a great finish. The second remix is provided by Paul Lennar who is a very underrated producer in the vast landscape of progressive house. The Colombian had an amazing 2013 with great releases on Classound, Sleepless Nights, Clinqiue, Magic Room and Suffused Music. His remix here is my favourite on the release and it’s one of Paul’s most impressive works to date. Paul’s grinding foundation is full of drive and the blissful melodic content is perfectly restrained for the contemporary progressive floors out there. The uniquely crafted breakdown with its plonky keys and cool harmonic dissonance might just be the best part of the mix though. Great work from Paul. The third remix is provided by Cyril Luzin who ups the tempo just a touch and delivers a very playful, melodic rework that should be huge for the morning sets. The third and final remix is provided Cuboidz who takes things deeper and even more enchanting. This is the UK producer’s first release of the year and he’s delivered a great remix to close the release out. The stripped down framework allows all the interwoven melodies and haunting vocal elements to breathe a bit more and the result is a very emotional and heartfelt production. Great stuff from Cuboidz and a great remix pack from Baroque Digital!
