Italian Producer and DJ Eddy D’Amato continues carving his place in the Techno landscape with a distinctive sonic identity defined by drive, detail, and direction. His latest release, ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ sees him lean into hypnotic energy and textured precision, delivering a track that captures the tension, motion, and atmosphere that have become central to his sound. As he expands his catalogue and sharpens his artistic focus, we caught up with Eddy to go behind the scenes of the production, exploring how his sound is evolving, and find out what he plans for next in his creative path.
Hi Eddy D’Amato! How are you?
I’m doing great, just keeping the momentum going!
‘Edge of Tomorrow’ showcases a detailed, evolving structure. Where did the initial idea for the track come from, and what inspired you to develop it into this kind of hypnotic journey?
The idea was born in the studio during a moment of creative experimentation. I think the hypnotic journey that came out of it is the natural evolution of a free and creative flow.
How did you approach building the groove, and what elements were essential to getting the energy right?
I built the groove by carefully selecting the elements that best matched the mood of the track. The most important components for getting the right energy were definitely the synths and the arp, which carry the tension and build-up moments throughout the track.
There’s a clear sense of tension and progression in the arrangement. Can you walk us through how you layered the shuffled percussion and melodic components to maintain that sense of movement?
I worked on each element in groups – for example, percussion with percussion -highlighting their unique characteristics. Then, I arranged and adjusted them around the melodic elements to create a cohesive sense of movement and progression throughout the track.
What about the track would you say is exemplary of the Eddy D’Amato sound?
Definitely, the atmosphere of this track is an element that represents me well, along with some sounds that are similar to those I’ve used in previous tracks. Although now, I’m focusing more on producing higher-energy tracks.
How do you typically approach tension and release in your productions? What techniques or choices help you keep listeners engaged throughout the sonic journey?
I usually build tension by filtering or cutting certain elements to create a sense of anticipation, then release it either in the drop or the following section. I also like to remove elements like the kick or some percussion to create a brief empty space with some delay before bringing the energy back. In the drops, I follow the same idea – always imagining how the crowd might react, thinking about how the track will be experienced on the dancefloor.
From a production standpoint, were there any new techniques, plugins, or creative risks you took while working on this release?
Since this track has a hypnotic, journey-like mood, I actually used a different plugin chain than usual. I incorporated plugins from Slate Digital alongside my usual tools from Native Instruments and FabFilter. They helped give the track a more authentic touch – let’s say, a bit of a vinyl mood – especially during the mixing phase on the buses.
How would you say ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ fits within your wider catalogue – does it represent a continuation of your sound, or a step in a new direction?
Actually, it’s a track I produced some time ago, so by the time it’s being released, I’m already moving in a new direction – more energetic and leaning more towards proper Peak Time Techno.
How do you strike a balance between staying true to the Techno sound and pushing your own creative boundaries?
It’s not easy, and let’s say you always stay a bit unbalanced. But the only way to manage it is by constantly aiming for the next step, trying to improve with each production, focusing on the quality of the music, and using the best of the current Techno scene as a reference point.
Finally, where do you see your sound evolving next? Are there any ideas or directions you’re keen to explore in your upcoming productions – and can listeners expect new music soon?
Yes, absolutely – new music is definitely on the way, with at least two tracks coming out within the next couple of months. That said, my sound is evolving as I focus on achieving the best possible sonic quality. I also have a clear vision for the future, both in terms of creative goals and upcoming projects, including launching my own label.
As he moves into a new phase of production, aiming to explore fresh sonic landscapes, Eddy D’Amato is sure to preserve the central focus of his signature sound, shaping more soundscapes where energy and precise sound design converge.
