Sleepless Nights Recordings returns this week for one final release to close out 2013. SNR was created by Soulfinder and Vincent Furlong in 2011 and the imprint has come a long way over it’s now 2 1/2 year run. Their discography showcases appearances from: Juan Deminicis, Silinder and Nick Stoynoff which are three of the most cutting edge names in the electronic music underground. The labels 16th overall release features label boss Soulfinder back in the spotlight with a new single in conjunction with fellow Irish producer Svelte (Claire Roche). The duo’s debut collaboration together is entitled ‘Spoken Truth’ and it comes with remixes from: Qoob and Yuriy From Russia.
The original mix here is a flawlessly produced piece of sultry progressive house. The haunting ambient opening lays down the perfect gaseous atmosphere for the introduction of Svelte’s vocals which are not only pristine sounding but also full of great depth and range. The harmonic complements that the track provides to the great vocal hooks are bang on the money as well. Clusters of cascading keys and an ever evolving, wispy atmospheric back drop highlight Svelte’s airy vocals perfectly. The main break further expands the melodic themes with a more complex sequence of spine tingling keys which gradually envelope to a wonderful climax before the groove and vocals return with even more emotional vigor. It’s a near perfect production that fans of pure progressive house dating all the way back to the sound of Jackpot Records will absolutely love.
The first remix is provided by QOOB who are making their first appearance on Sleepless Nights. The Russian duo have added some quality entries to their discography over the this past year with outings for Stereo Paradise, System, Soundteller and Stripped taking centre stage. Their remix here stays quite true to the main themes from the original but with a slightly deeper, smoother and more percussive vibe. Some nice effects on the vocals and cool modulation on the lead melodic elements offer a new twist and a dreamier more hypnotic take on things. Progressive house DJs looking for a more hypno style mix will likely go for this version but both this and the Original are sensational.
The release is closed out with one of this year’s grossly underrated producers Yuriy From Russia. His ‘Chase’ EP released on Crossfade Sounds just last week was one of the year’s highlights and with a long line of quality productions in the pipeline for next year Yuriy looks to be building some great momentum to close out 2013. His ‘Spoken Truth’ interpretation proves to be a great complement to the previous two versions as it’s a much deeper and more soulful affair. The soft bass stabs which make up the foundation of the record are incredibly warm and the moderately trippy panning keys are the ultimate complement to the stellar groove. Top work from Yuriy and another perfect release for Sleepless Nights to close out 2013.
