Key Takeaways
Raw Analogue Hardware, Limited Vinyl Pressings and the Philosophy of SEELEN. Records
Germany’s techno underground has never lacked intensity, but few operators balance raw aggression and melancholic beauty quite like Leipzig’s Stigmatique. The producer, DJ and SEELEN. Records boss has spent the better part of a decade carving out a space that feels deliberately uncompromising: dark, mystical, emotionally charged, and rooted in a DIY ethos that prioritises substance over hype.
His path into professional electronic music production was not gradual. During a difficult personal period, an acquaintance living the creative life he envisioned provided necessary momentum. Encouraging a complete turning point, the conversation forced a total commitment to electronic music production.
He once told me that it was time for a turning point in my life and that, if I truly wanted to achieve my dream, I had to make a decision. So I did, and here I am.
The moniker itself reflects personal history. Releasing under variations of the name Stigmatique, the word refers directly to the social process of negative judgment, exclusion and discrimination based on characteristics perceived as deviant. Experiencing isolation in earlier years established a strong personal alignment with the definition.
The definition is as follows: Stigmatization is the social process in which individuals or groups are negatively judged, excluded, or discriminated against because of certain characteristics that are perceived as deviating from the norm. The affected person is reduced to that single characteristic, often resulting in prejudice and social disadvantage. I used to be a loner because of my past, which is why I identified so strongly with that definition.
Stigmatique Interview: Emotion and Analogue Machinery
In 2018, that outsider energy crystallised into SEELEN. Records. Long before faster, harder or hybrid forms of techno achieved widespread popularity, the label arrived with a punk attitude and raw charm designed to question established norms. Capturing the sound of the moment, the imprint maintains a consistent sonic output intended to endure for decades.
Back then, and still today, we simply captured the sound of the moment. Long before other styles of techno or faster music became mainstream, we had the opportunity to shake up the musical scene with our punk attitude and raw charm, questioning the status quo. Our sound has remained consistent over the years, and I’m convinced it still will be twenty years from now.
Initial label operations relied entirely on physical self-distribution. Operating without external distributors, digital platforms, or third-party sales channels provided practical label management experience. Building from scratch established a foundation focused on long-term consistency and authentic roots.
That period wasn’t easy, but it taught us from the ground up what it really means to run a record label and move it forward. Without a distributor, digital releases, or any other external sales channels, we managed to create something with lasting value, something that will continue to stand for quality in the years to come. Many successful artists never really learn what it means to be consistent, what it means to start from absolutely nothing, to take every single step on your own, or to stay true to yourself and your roots. Those are all qualities that are essential if you still want to approach your passion with the same energy and dedication twenty years later as you did in the beginning.
The label maintains a strict limited-vinyl policy to preserve the physical digging experience. In an era dominated by instant digital availability, holding a tangible pressing provides a distinct, unique connection for collectors.
We want digging for vinyl to remain something special. Holding a physical record in your hands should still feel meaningful, and owning one should feel like owning something truly unique. In today’s fast-moving world, that’s incredibly important.
In December 2025, the imprint issued the Am Ende War Die Nacht EP. The release directly mirrors the emotional climate of its creation, capturing a phase defined by structural change, enthusiasm, and underlying melancholy.
For me, my artistic identity has always been inseparable from emotions and feelings. Every release reflects the emotional state I was in at that particular moment. To answer that question properly, you’d first have to know how I was feeling emotionally during that time. For me, it was a period of major change, new beginnings, and enthusiasm, all existing alongside melancholy. Ironic, isn’t it?
Leipzig Techno Producer on Independent Vinyl Culture
Remix duties for the SEELEN 013 vinyl release were assigned to Phase Fatale and Denise Rabe. Having accompanied Stigmatique throughout his artistic progression, both producers aligned naturally with the project’s sonic requirements.
Denise and Hayden are incredible musicians, whether they’re behind the decks or working in the studio. They’ve both accompanied me throughout my journey as an artist, so there was never any doubt in my mind that they were the right people for the remixes.
On the dancefloor, club sets transition fluidly between high-energy rhythms and melancholic passages. Rejecting continuous peak-time intensity, the mixing style focuses on emotional reflection, using sound to communicate personal states that resist direct verbal expression.
It’s simple: emotions. It’s important not to play one high intensity after another. Instead, you should reflect yourself and your emotional state. I see my sets as a way of expressing things I might not have the courage to say directly. Someone who only wants to play DJ sets isn’t a real musician. Only someone who genuinely wants to express something or grow through music can truly make an impact or communicate a meaningful message.
Translating studio production to live performances relies entirely on authentic passion rather than hidden technical tricks. Allowing both positive and negative emotional states to dictate sound generation prevents creative blockages in the studio.
There aren’t really any secrets. The important thing is to do everything with passion, whether those passion are positive or negative. You should let all of it flow into your music. That’s why there are hardly any days when I feel uncreative or unable to create, produce, or mix music.
As SEELEN. Records expands its international presence, the core punk mentality remains firmly intact. Grounded operations, trend resistance, and ticket price accessibility ensure strong alignment with the surrounding club community.
The most important thing is to stay grounded and be yourself. The people who follow us know that we’re trying to represent a thing above the mainstream. We don’t chase trends, and we want our music to remain accessible to people who maybe can’t afford to spend โฌ50 on a ticket. That’s why we continue to grow. The people who support us can identify with us, and we can identify with them. We stay true to ourselves. We stay true to the scene. And we treat everyone who comes to our events or buys our music as equals. We’re all the same.
Distribution operations transitioned smoothly through a partnership with Inch By Inch, simplifying logistics without compromising operational independence. In the studio, analogue hardware continues to introduce unfiltered freshness to digital synthesis, forcing creative breakthroughs.
Using analogue hardware always brings an unexpected freshness to my productions, especially since I mainly work with digital sound generation. It creates a raw, unfiltered, and very direct sonic signature, if you can call it that. Sometimes it helps me break out of my usual creative environment and think beyond my own boundaries. But special in the last time I try to keep going only with digital synthesis.
Long club sets bridge the gap between artist and dancer through emotional transparency. Inviting audiences into a specific sonic narrative allows listeners to experience authentic connection and lose themselves on the dancefloor.
The key is inviting the audience into your own world and allowing them to experience the emotions you’re trying to express and letting them feel what you feels. You have to be honest during your sets. Only then will people feel a genuine connection, allowing them to let go and completely lose themselves in the moment.
Selecting event venues requires strict moral and creative alignment with local venue teams. Shared purpose ensures label nights construct meaningful communal experiences rather than standard commercial events.
We definitely try to identify with the venues we work with. Having a genuine connection with both the audience and the team is incredibly important to us. How can you create something meaningful together during a night, or even during the day, if you’re not there for the same reason?
A December 2025 live performance broadcast for HรR Berlin featured unreleased material alongside the track Oni, which saw release on the DVNTT imprint in July 2025. Moving through 2026, key milestones remain focused on live delivery.
In mid-August 2026, SEELEN. Records hosted its first Berlin club showcase since prior to the pandemic, followed immediately by a debut set at Sisyphos. Additional label developments and production projects remain in active planning, advancing the imprint’s independent vision.
