Subandrio - Fractured Moment

Cid Inc’s Replug Records has long been a launching pad for new electronic music talent. Rich Curtis, Soulwerk, Stas Drive, Juan Deminicis and Soundprank who are all household names today released some of their first material on the Finnish imprint. Replug’s 33rd offering and first of 2015 features the label debut of yet another fresh and exciting talent by the name of Subandrio. With a DJ career that now stretches nearly twenty years the Sri Lankan born but now Dubai based artist was named Pioneer Middle East DJ of the year in 2009 and 2013. Although as a producer he has just two credits on his discography Subandrio has already earned radio play from world class DJ Hernan Cattaneo. His debut EP for Replug Records is entitled ‘Fractured Moment’ and it comes with three brand new original productions.

Subandrio’s years logged behind the decks have served his production prowess quite well. He’s an artist with a keen nose for dance floor and the title track here ‘Fractured Moment’ exemplifies that quite well. It’s fusion of deep, techno and progressive sounds moves with remarkable fluidity while it’s assortment of catchy harmonies enhances the distinctive groove. Following an energetic first half the track strips down into a charming main break, the glowing atmosphere breathes tranquility before the romping groove returns for and even larger, more elating conclusion. Brilliant start to the EP!

The second selection ‘Distinct Legacy’ finds the Dubai based producer with a slightly deeper approach. The trademark bass swells again power the foundation while a complement of fluttering percs and glowing synths create a stunning atmosphere early on. Indistinct vocal samples then lead the track into the break for a gorgeous one minute textural collage. Warm walls of bass and esoteric keys add to the rich atmosphere as the second half commences and drive the track to a smooth and serene finish.

The third and final selection ‘Prevalent Minds’ again shows Subandrio’s versatility with a driving, techno inspired piece. Phasing rhythms, offset stabs and a vortex of rolling vocal loops generate sizable momentum throughout the course of its seven and a half minute duration. It’s electric atmosphere is filled with peak time motifs and finishes the release out on a large note! Subandrio is definitely a producer to keep a close eye on as 2015 moves forward, he’s certainly off to a great start!
