The 88th release on Baroque’s Special Edition’s series features a brand new collaboration from Suffused and Advent’s Rising.
The Suffused production alias has been quiet for the better part of the last year but the brand’s label imprint has been flourishing. With more than 60 releases under their belt Suffused Music is one of the forces in the progressive house underground. One of the labels primary artists has been Greek producer Advent’s Rising so it’s fitting to see a collaboration from them here. The result of their first joint studio project is entitled ‘Stressed Out’ and it comes with remixes from Dubspeeka and Roland Westlake.
The original mix leads the release off and it’s quick build into the first break is immediately striking. The rolling hypnotic lines have a bright metallic finish and the tough, techy foundation is quite powerful. Slowly some melodic elements creep in as some descending synths up the melancholic factor while the rushy builds churn in the background. This buzzing energy leads the track to the main break which showcases a new twist on the gyrating lead line. It’s makes for big impact upon re-entry and ultimately leads to an energetic conclusion. A great meld of techno and progressive elements from Suffused and Advent’s Rising.
The first interpretation of ‘Stressed Out’ is supplied by Dubspeeka who is making his debut appearance on Baroque. The UK producer is famed for being part of the much loved Kosheen project which yielded one of electronic music’s finest ever records in ‘Hide You’. The Dubspeeka moniker was created in 2012 and has already amassed a discography of over 50 releases which include appearances on Bedrock, Drumcode and Trusoul. For his ‘Stressed Out’ interpretation Dubspeeka has stripped the piece down further but stayed quite true to the main themes from the original. The tough yet spacious groove is well complemented with some wickedly processed rolling percussion as well as the main hypnotic components from the original. Pure dark room and strobes material. Don’t miss it.
The second and final interpretation is supplied by Roland Westlake who is returning to Baroque for his fifth appearance. We last heard from Roland with his ‘Rough Dreams’ EP which was released on Baroque Records partner Aurium Recordings. For his ‘Stressed Out’ interpretation Roland has delivered a deep and dark beauty. Driven by some ominous bass tones, scattered percussion and trippy effects this goes down as a great complement to the previous more stripped down versions. It rounds out another excellent release on Baroque Records in fine style. Don’t miss it!
