For over two decades, Supernova have stood as one of Italy’s most enduring forces in electronic music.
Supernova, born from the fusion of two accomplished solo artists – Emiliano “Emijay” Nencioni, a celebrated DJ with deep roots in Florence’s underground scene, and Giacomo Godi, a platinum-certified Milan-based producer and arranger – the duo’s journey has been defined by reinvention. Together, they’ve built a global project that has evolved without compromise, channeling their shared passion for house music into a legacy that stretches from Tuscany’s clubs to the world’s biggest stages.
“Supernova started as two individuals coming together from different worlds,” Giacomo explains. “But over time, it became something larger – a sound, a movement, an identity that keeps evolving.” Emiliano agrees: “From two solo artists to a global project that keeps expanding, the name still perfectly fits who we are.”
That sense of duality – balance between individual expression and collective vision – runs through everything they do. Beyond DJing and production, Supernova built an entire ecosystem of labels: Lapsus Music, Downtown Underground, and Blackboard. “Each label was born out of a different creative need,” says Emiliano. “Lapsus is our home – it reflects the core of Supernova’s sound and energy. Downtown Underground focuses on the raw, classic house vibe we both love, while Blackboard allows us to experiment with deeper, more conceptual sounds. It’s like having three parallel conversations about music – each one true to who we are.”

Their shared roots in Italy remain central, even as their music travels the globe. “Every time I play around the world, I try to bring our mood and musical roots with me,” says Giacomo. “The goal is always to share the Supernova vibe and deliver our message through music and energy.”
That energy is the product of an unusually durable partnership. “We’ve always inspired, pushed, and supported each other creatively,” Giacomo continues. “Where one of us doesn’t reach, the other steps in – and that creates a special chemistry. Our sound is the sum of two different musical backgrounds working in perfect balance.”
Both artists remain active outside the project, but rather than fragmenting their identity, their individual pursuits fuel it. “Our individual careers actually gave birth to Supernova,” says Giacomo. “The project keeps thriving because we can still fully express ourselves within it – each with our own style and personality. Without the individuality of Emiliano ‘Emijay’ Nencioni and Giacomo Godi, Supernova simply wouldn’t still be here after more than two decades.”
Staying relevant in a fast-changing scene is a challenge the duo have mastered through consistency and curiosity. “Our philosophy has always been to stay current,” says Giacomo. “We listen, absorb, and get inspired by the new sounds of the moment, but without ever losing our distinctive identity or forgetting the roots of house music that shaped us.”

Technology has also played its part in defining the Supernova sound. “Emiliano loves everything that runs around analog drum machines and samplers,” says Giacomo. “I always stay updated on new software and plugins, even those involving AI, but at the end of the day, the heart and engine of our sound will always be analog hardware.”
Behind the studio polish lies a demanding global schedule. Between running three labels, managing a publishing company, and directing events, balance becomes key. “It’s definitely not easy to stay artistically inspired while touring the world,” admits Giacomo. “Luckily, being a duo allows us to divide things naturally – I focus more on production and organization, while Emiliano handles research, A&R, and creative direction.”
It’s that balance – between structure and instinct, precision and freedom – that has kept Supernova’s collaboration alive for more than twenty years. “Working together for that long takes a lot of respect and mutual appreciation,” says Giacomo. “We still feel we need each other to keep Supernova alive, and we both deeply believe in it. At this point, we’re more like brothers than just partners.”
As they look to the future, Supernova show no signs of slowing down. “We’re in a very creative phase right now,” Giacomo says. “House music is making a strong comeback globally, and we feel our sound fits perfectly with this moment. Supernova 2.0 is a conscious evolution – more confident and defined — of the best of Supernova 1.0. We’ve got collaborations coming with Chez Damier, Marco Lys, Easttown, and II Faces, plus tracks featuring Stee Downes and Richard Walters, and a powerful new EP dropping this December on Lapsus Music.”
From Florence to the world, Supernova’s story is one of persistence, partnership, and purpose – two artists who turned individual mastery into a shared legacy that continues to expand.
