Tim Engelhardt – Cara (Manual Music)

The latest release on Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music welcomes Tim Engelhardt back to the label for a new single.

Tim Engelhardt

The German producer is fresh off the release of his ‘Everything Is All You Have’ on Pokerflat Recordings and has also appeared on Babiczstyle and Parquet Recordings this year. Tim is no stranger to Manual Music having already delivered three originals and a remix in the last calendar year. Now returning for his fifth appearance Tim presents his latest studio creation ‘Cara’ which includes a remix from Nikola Gala.

There’s a new breed of contemporary techno producers making waves in the underground right now and Tim is certainly one. At just 17 years old the German producer is already quite accomplished and sonically quite diverse. A quick look over his discography and you hear a mishmash of styles from deeper more soulful grooves to pristine melodic techno. ‘Cara’ has already made its mark in a way having appeared on Eelke Kleijn’s Toolroom Live 02 mix and now gets its official release here alongside a remix from Nikola Gala. Backed by a round, funk infused groove and a cool harmonic resonance it certainly carries a great dance floor sensibility straight away. It’s bouncy energy seems boundless and a barrage of wicked hooks carry it through all three acts with ease. It’s great club dynamics aside it’s the musical elements which really shine here; bright, effervescent and a touch poppy they make for a truly exhilarating ride, and have just the right amount of quirkiness to avoid being cheesy. Outstanding tune from Tim.

The lone interpretation of ‘Cara’ is provided by Nikola Gala who is making his first appearance on Manual Music. The Greek producer is famed for his releases on Freerange, Plastic City and Rekids, while long time progressive house fans will remember his releases on Audio Therapy and Renaissance. Nikola’s sound has went through several stylistic shifts over the last decade and of late there’s been an impressive string of meticulously produced techno cuts. His ‘Cara’ interpretation falls well in line with those and proves to be an excellent complement to Tim’s original. Pulsating beats, effervescent claps and fuzzy stabs make for a captivating first act as waves of percussion slowly get added into the mix. A storyboard of vocal edits make for some nice hooks through the middle portion of the record, before a timeless motif brings the groove back for a strong finish. Great remix from Nikola and a top original from Tim which make for another excellent release on Manual Music. Don’t miss it.
