With Filter Bear’s ‘La Rinconada’ EP out now on Replug Records, we take a look at his favourite tracks of the moment in the latest edition of What’s In Your Box?
1. Lee Burridge & Lost Desert feat. Junior – Lingala (Gorje Hewek & Izhevski Remix) [All Day I Dream]
“This is a stunning piece of music. For me, it encompasses modern day wonder. Emotion is often difficult to translate in a tasteful musical manner, but this track does it effortlessly. Gorje & Izhevski weave genuine magic through every bare element with a truly beautiful outcome.”
2. Helmut Ebritsch – Luminary (Nadja Lind Sin Remix) [Lucidflow]
“Lonely and mysterious, full of lust and strokes of velvet. There are not enough lush adjectives to describe this remix of Luminary. A masterpiece of combining gentle yet pulsating groove with an almost erotic atmosphere.”
3. Lee Van Dowski – 050504 [mobilee]
“I’ve long been a fan of Lee Van Dowski’s work, but this release is a clear standout for me. I always wonder at how Lee manages to create such unsettling tension with the sample manipulation, which are unexpectedly interrupted by sporadic big moments throughout the composition.
4. dubspeeka – Outland 1 (Original Mix) [Skeleton]
“For me, this is a 3am track. I love everything about this weapon. The darkness is weirdly energetic and constantly rolling, which separates this from the norm. dubspeeka really makes the listener work for the hypnotizing lead in the middle and then doesn’t waste time inviting the rolling drums back in to continue the onslaught.”
5. Luka Sambe – Rozaball (Original Mix) [Mesmeric]
“My long-time friend and musical partner won me over forever with Locus, but the love is now equally shared with Rozaball. I remember having to pull over when I heard the final version of this track in my car so I could ring Luka in excitement. The progression of the main synth is out of this world.
5. Maher Daniel & Jon Charnis – Lonely Stars In Open Skies (Luca Bacchetti Endless Remix) [All Day I Dream]
“Second ADID release on my list but this track does some serious damage whenever I’ve played it. Luca is a magician with a creative vision to be reckoned with. This track has a super tough spine, coated in sugar, spice and everything in between. Did I mention the super infectious groove?
6. Cornucopia – The Day You Got Older and Stronger [Shanti Radio Moscow]
“A progressive dreamscape that wraps you in its arms with a gentle smile. Such a feel-good piece of music, but not through obvious methods. I imagine a picturesque, stress-free dream – one from which you wake up wondering what exactly happened. Not quite understanding why it’s left you with a content feeling and a sense of comfort.
7. Luka Sambe & Filter Bear – Velvet Dusk [Second Nature]
“During a gig with Luka Sambe in Ibiza last year, towards close, we decided to play our dreamy collaboration and what a moment it was. This track will always have a special place in my heart. The melody touches me and the connection to friendship & Ibiza is engrained in it’s very soul. Probably one of the more emotional productions we’ve done together.
8. Filter Bear – La Rinconada (Original Mix) [Replug]
“This is something I wrote quite efficiently. Sometimes productions just flow with such ease that it’s scary. La Rinconada was just that – simple in flow (in my head), clean and thoughtful without being too weird. I don’t usually rinse my own music but I have feeling this could be an exception!”
9. Robert Babicz – Dark flower (Joris Voorn Remix) [Audiomatique]
“Nothing more to be said besides that it’s an absolute classic. Never ages, never fades – always incredible.”
10. Shlomi Aber – Slow Dancer [Ovum]
“I love to close my sets with this track. Simple? Yes. Restrained? Yes. What this track lacks in layers, it makes up in raw emotion and groove. I love the warm, thick percussion that keeps tapping away until a gentle transition into a lovely quiet, naked break. I will never get sick of this.”
