After a three week X-Mas and New Years break Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s Mistique Music is back with a new EP from Kay-D this week. By all accounts Kay-D had a great year in 2012, he had many great releases on Mistique, LuPS, Stellar Fountain, OLD SQL, Reelaux Digital and Black Hole. 2013 is already off to a great start for the Hungarian producer as his new EP for Mistique entitled ‘Sagittarius’ is out and it contains four new originals productions that promise to be his best work yet.
‘Imagine’ leads the EP off with some scattered electronics, gleaming keys and a pixie like atmospheric backdrop. An incredibly funky bass line then gets dropped in along with a wealth of drum elements; this leads to a short drop which reveals a long, soulful lead which slowly weaves it’s way in and out of the mix as the main drop appears. Here some wonderful sounding gated synths along with a haunting atmospheric environment create an amazing vibe for the second half of the record which ranks right up there some of Kay-D’s most unique melodic creations to date. The second cut entitled ‘Not Enough’ comes with more of an uptempo, club friendly vibe. A big romping bass line along with playful synths keep the energy high throughout and the guitar hooks add a nice musicality to the track as well. The title track ‘Sagittarius’ is next and it begins with a wicked, low-slung groove that’s surrounded by great vocal elements and fluttering, widescreen synths that sit perfectly outside the mix. The soulful vocal wails trail through the production as the atmospheric energy builds towards the main the drop. Here the meaty bass line and hypnotic elements take centre stage along with the vocals parts to create a heavenly but intense melodic interlude. The second half of the record finishes with all the gorgeous elements coming together for an exhilarating climax. The final track on the EP is entitled ‘Undertow’ and it puts a cap on the EP with a gritty, melodic sound that’s full of character. Filled with bouncy bass lines, cool electronic stabs and wickedly squelchy synths ‘Undertow’ builds up with an amazing atmospheric vibe. The main breakdown again features some more great instrumentation from Kay-D which carries though the second half of the record for a great finish. A superb EP from Kay-D and a brilliant start to 2013 for our good friends at Mistique. Release Promo Hype Chart Top 25
