Mark Knight Plays Dead Or Alive

Catch Mark Knight’s Radio Show On Mi-Soul Radio, The First Saturday Of Each Month 7-9pm

Mark Knight is first up in our new dead or alive series. We up caught up with the iconic artist and Toolroom label boss to find out the person he’d most like to interview on his Mi-Soul Radio show…

Mark Knight: I’d have to pick Larry Levan for this – there are so many things I’d like to speak with him about, and he’s be a perfect fit for my Mi-Soul show. I’d ask him if he could ever have thought that DJ culture would get to the place it is today. Larry sadly left us way before the idea of a ‘superstar’ DJ took hold. He came from a place where even all standing to face the DJ would have been considered weird, so I’m sure he’d have a few things to say about modern day dancefloors.

I’d also like to ask him about what role he thinks a DJ really should fulfil, where he got his motivation to do what he did and what he had to overcome in order to get there. I’d ask him his thoughts on a Trump presidency, obviously. The places where Larry used to play were amongst the most inclusive places in the country, so he might have some ideas on how music and nightlight could continue to unite an increasingly fractious community.

Then to finish up I’d ask him to tell me about his absolute wildest night out, all the gory details. I bet it would put the rest of us to shame!
