Nicolas Agudelo & Andrei Niconoff – Overworld (Clinique Recordings)

Clinique Recordings returns this week with a brand new collaborative project from Nicolas Agudelo & Andrei Niconoff.

Nicolas Agudelo & Andrei Niconoff - Overworld

Hailing from Colombia and Mexico respectively, this is the duos first time working together following solo projects for Mesmeric Records, Mistique Music and PHW. Their first collaboration together has resulted in the charming ‘Overworld’ which is accompanied by remixes from Faskil and Rasti Tkac.

The original kicks the release off with a smooth energetic vibe. Nicolas is certainly known for his intricate design skills and the addition of Andrei has only added to that. Rolling rhythms, spacey sweeps and atmospheric tones lead the way before a more distinctive theme enters. It’s a gorgeous offset motif and the frantic electronics which surround it oddly enhance it quite well. The main break brings things right down for a moment of serenity before the stripped groove slowly reconvenes all the elements for a swirling, atmospheric conclusion, quite worthy of peak time play. This one’s a monster, a great colab from Nicolas and Andrei.

Clinique has provided two stellar remixes once again with Faskil leading the way making his fourth appearance on the label. The Belgian born, France based artist is a veteran of the scene and proves it with a timeless broken beat interpretation of ‘Overworld’. Crisp and full of pop the beats come with a great energetic feel and the surrounding percussion just adds to the momentous vibe. The main elements from the original get worked in nicely, albeit in a more subtle yet equally compelling manner. The section following the main break is beautiful; open and airy which preludes the final percussive assault perfectly. Killer remix from Faskil.

Closing the release out is another scene veteran Rasti Tkac who is making his fourth appearance on the label. Still remembered by the old school faithful as one half of Tkac and Haverlik who rose to prominence on Baroque Records during the golden era of progressive house. Here Rasti, stays true to the the energetic vibe of the original with a driving mix that’s perfectly geared for peak time play. A moogy lead definitely sets this one apart and melds well with the atmospheric complements from the original. The break brings all the moments you hope for, from an atmospheric peak to bassy wobbles, all before a powerful drop where the bass line really shines. Brilliant remix from Rasti and another great offering from Clinique Recordings. Don’t miss it.
