John Johnson’s Hydrogen imprint begins 2017 showcasing new remixes of ‘Introspection’ from Paul Deep & Martin Gardoqui.
Originally released as part of the ‘Sound Lab’ collection in March of last year the track proved to be a standout. The Argentinean duo’s knack for crafting smooth progressive grooves was at a premium and it’s evolving melodic narrative proved incredibly powerful. Now to begin the new year we see Hydrogen inviting Jose Tabarez and AudioStorm who provide their own unique interpretations.
Born in Hungary but now based in London, Jose Tabarez is one of the progressive underground’s hidden gems. A volume controlled release schedule and strong creativity has made him one of the more in demand remixers of the moment. He’s also fresh off a great collaboration with Robert R. Hardy courtesy of Stellar Fountain just last week. Here he takes ‘Introspection’ closer to the dance floor with a tighter framework and strong rhythmic core. For all it’s ethereal beauty the original does get conveyed nicely here but in a more fragmented dubbed out fashion. It’s keeps the attention on the strong groove while Jose adds his own blissful moments, most notably an unforgettable break. Beautiful remix from Jose.
Closing the release out is AudioStorm who is making his first appearance on the label. The Montenegrin artist has become his country’s most well known progressive house talent. In addition to sharing the stage with Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, Audiostorm always owns a discography with appearances on Sudbeat Music and Movement Recordings. For his ‘Introspection’ interpretation he has stripped the track down and gone into darker territory, complementing the previous two versions quite nicely. It’s sturdy framework is perfect for the dance floor and an ominous second act brings a lovely dub flavour to break up the action. Great remix from Audiostorm which rounds out a top notch release for Hydrogen to begin the year. Don’t miss it.
