Techno’s founding father, Kevin Saunderson, has taken it upon himself to create a new worldwide federation, to combat “gimmick DJ’s” end corporatism and preserve the purity of techno.
An angry Kevin Saunderson hit out against “gimmick DJs” on Twitter yesterday and called out the corporatization of techno, a move which he believes is a far cry away from the very scene he and the Belleville Three started.
Why do ‘Techno’ Festivals pick Gimmick DJs over innovator’s @DerrickMayDay, @CarlCraignet @juanatkins? We started this scene TO UNITE regardless of race/sexuality/gender. It’s insulting to see commercial brands turn our industry inside out! I’m ULTRA dubious about it all…! #KFC pic.twitter.com/IEDOz7GVuZ

It didn’t take long for other legends to wade in on the action.
It’s fucking sacrilege to have a Techno music festival without either Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson or Juan Atkins

We caught up with Saunderson for a quick Skype chat, who explained he will be forming a new worldwide techno federation, to “fight all the fakes and keep it real”. We can exclusively reveal it will be known as the ‘Keep Free Cause’ (KFC), as per the hashtag in his tweet. Details are still sketchy at the moment, but Saunderson said “DJs and producers will need to sit an exam before they can play”. We’ll be updating you with fresh news, as soon as it’s available.
We’d like to get your thoughts on Kevin Saunderson’s new KFC initiative, so we’re putting this to the public vote. Do you think it’s a good idea? Voting is simple: one person, one vote. If you’d like to see the results, then share it with your friends on social media and discuss it amongst yourselves.
