Caribou – Can’t Do Without You (Nick Muir Remix) (Bedrock Free Download)

Nick Muir‘s euphoric version of Caribou’s ‘Can’t Do Without You’ is finally available as a free download courtesy of those nice people over at Bedrock!

You might wonder whether there was really any need for another remix of this song, given that it already received an epic, anthemic reworking at the hands of Tale of Us and Mano Le Tough last year. But it’s been clear from the videos of John Digweed slaying crowds with it that Nick Muir had managed to add something really special, and so it’s fantasticย to be able to get our hands on the final, full track at last. The first half is a gentle build, which makes the most ofย those familar chords and vocal refrains, but the remix really takes off after the short breakdown halfway through, with Nick Muir introducing a beautiful hypnotic bassline and layers of triumphant and uplifting melodies,ย allย underpinned by the original’s distinctive main theme and those plaintiveย butย infectiousย looping vocals that get stuck in your head for days at a time.

This has really made my week – a big thanks to Nick Muir and to Bedrock to making this available at last, and to Caribou and his record label for getting behind it. Go getย it (and of course check out Caribou, Nick Muir, and Bedrock’s back catalogues if you like it)!
