Derek Howell – Runner Remixes (Yin :: Yang)

The latest release on Yin Yang Music finds the label showcasing new remixes of Derek Howell’s ‘Runner’.

Derek Howell - Runner Remixes (Yin Yang)

Originally released in 2009 on the ‘Master Lux’s Emporium Movement’ EP courtesy Proton Music, the track later went on to be remixed by Huminal in June of this year. Now we see Yin Yang following that up with two more excellent renditions from Rolando Vallice and Jelly For The Babies & Di Rugerio.

First up rising Dutch star Rolando Vallice makes his label debut and takes the track into techno territory. Although still a relatively new name Rolando has become known for his bass driven productions which definitely holds true here once again. Anchored by a full rolling groove the piece excels on its energy and great design qualities. A fresh vocal stab and storyboard of granular effects stand out the most while the punishing groove builds more momentum after each passing loop. Massive remix from Rolando.

The second and final interpretation of the ‘Runner’ comes from Jelly For The Babies & Di Rugerio. Hailing from Serbia and Mexico respectively the duo have worked together in the past, most notably for Heavenly Bodies. It’s a unique combination of styles and it proves really effective here once again. It’s deeper, atmospheric leanings sit as a great complement to Rolando’s version and some lovely emotion comes out of it as a result. Subversive textures, rhythmic tones and hypnotic synths all wrapped up in a shimmering haze make for some amazing moments, not the least of which is a gorgeous break which brings a bit of extra heat at the drop. Lovely remix from Jelly For The Babies & Di Rugerio and a great release for Yin Yang once again. Don’t miss it.
