Maurice Caron – Just In Case I Don’t Win/Freedom of Choice (The Sessions)

Holland’s Maurice Caron serves up the latest release on C-Jay’s The Sessions label, with two contrasting but equally great tracks.

‘Just In Case I Don’t Win’ pulses with energy, while teasing in abstract, organ-like melodies. The bassline begins to churn, giving the track forward momentum while dreamy pads add plenty of emotion. A dramatic first breakdown sees Maurice Caron let the acid off the leash, giving the track a spikier, more aggressive edge, while the second breakdown simultaneously intensifies those 303 licks while letting the melodic sounds sneak back in for a doubly satisfying finale.

‘Freedom of Choice’ sees Maurice Caron in a different gear, as a drawn-out intro gives way to dancing melodies, glacial pads, a fierce bassline, and low-key shuffling percussion designed to keep heads gently nodding. The breakdown focuses on a key vocal sample before the second half delivers more enchanting trancey sounds.

‘Just In Case…’ is for the floor, ‘Freedom…’ for The Before or The After – both are winners, making this a strong release from Maurice Caron.
