MOODs has brought something new and essential to London since its launch. The night, hosted at W London, is a cool and trendy place for cool and trendy people. It is curated by PIEM, a Catalan DJ who knows how to throw a party.
So far the likes of Roger Sanchez, Faithless and Chus & Ceballos have already played, and CamelPhat are scheduled before the end of the year. But tonight it was a real legend in Erick Morillo who headlined the roadblock event. He is the Subliminal Sessions boss and usually plays huge festival stages to thousands of people.
Catching a DJ as big as him in a place as cosy as the W London rare. The vibe is classy and edgy, with a killer sound system delivering every kick drum loud and clear. After we sink our complimentary drink, we get down to some warm-up house sounds, full of melodious tones. The crowd is cosmopolitan and keen to get down and when the big man steps up, the place erupts.
He drops a heavy, chunky, steamy and sweaty selection. His mixing is tight and seamless, and vocals feature next to big basslines and hands in the air synths. It’s an energetic set that lights up the club and its urban design really makes for a great setting. With much more to come, this is already one of London’s most essential new nights.
