The 48th release on Triple Fire Music finds label boss Ryan Sullivan and long-time label artist Matthew Loots with a new collaborative project.
The South African duo have both been quite successful in their solo careers. Ryan’s meticulously crafted productions have been showcased on Manual Music, Perc Trax and Baroque Records. While Matthew, in addition to appearing on Kolour, Myna and Lost My Dog has been an integral part of the Triple Fire imprint and has also performed with Timo Maas and Roland Clark. Matthew and Ryan have now come together to record a brand new two track EP for Triple Fire which promises to be their best work yet.
The release begins with ‘Ampersand’ which finds Matthew and Ryan crafting a deep and dubby techno construction. Catchy vocal loops, dubbed out tones and some marvellously quirky rhythms make for an engaging first act. The main break introduces a more distinct motif, but just for a moment as it foreshadows a lovely melodic conclusion, which adds a tasteful amount of emotion to the sturdy groove. Beautiful work from Matthew and Ryan.
The companion piece ‘Tunnel Vision’ is equally appealing with its punchy groove and unique design qualities. Following a stripped down intro laced with ominous pads, a more distinctive rhythmic structure develops. Grating synths lead the way into a thematic breakdown where sweeping dynamics and dark stabs provide an epic moment. A third act of bubbly melodies lifts the vibe higher and ultimately provides a rousing conclusion to the EP. Two wonderful tracks from Matthew and Ryan. Don’t miss them.
