1. If you had to pick one track which solidified your love for electronic music early on what would it be?

Alfonso: I think hearing tracks like Cafe Del Mar by Energy 52, Love Stimulation by Humate and all those classic trance tracks made me realise I wasn’t going to be into rock music. I just couldn’t believe how beautiful these melodies were.

2. What was your first and last DJ gig?

Alfonso: First was at a school party. We hired out a local nightclub and I was the DJ along with 2 friends. It was terrible, the decks were these old Vestax decks that didn’t stay in time and all of my mixes were awful. Eventually someone set the fire alarm off and everyone had to leave. The last was at a local bar where all my friends worked, it was great because we all got very drunk and I played some crazy dark music.

3. What was the first and last record you purchased?

Alfonso: The first was Haddaway “What is love” I still love that record today, sometimes it comes on in the gym and I’ll get very excited. The last was the Dixon remix of Joy Wellboy’s track “Before The Sunrise”

4. What would you say is the highlight of your career thus far?

Alfonso: I think every time a big DJ plays your track it’s a big deal. When you see your track sat in the middle of their tracklist with names like “Guy J” and “Eric Prydz” either side I think it’s great because you admire these artists so much and now your productions are being played along side them. I think Markus Schulz played my track “Do You Remember Her” in his end of year countdown show along with artists like John Digweed and Tilt, it’s kinda crazy.

5. Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people?

Alfonso: I’m a massive fan of The Dixie Chicks.

6. Who are some of the best undiscovered talents in your eyes?

Alfonso: Although they’re not undiscovered I think guys like Vanyano, Simon Vuarambon and Li-Polymer will go on to do big things. I really like their stuff and each release is better than the last, it’s always exciting when you see a producer keep getting better and better.

7. Which producers consistently inspire you?

Alfonso: Deepfunk, Eelke Kleijn, Marc Marzenit, Guy J, Guy Gerber, King Unique, Silinder, Robert Babicz, Cid Inc the list goes on and on. There are so many great producers around at the moment.

8. What artist or track would you love to remix? and who would you love to be remixed by?

Alfonso: I’d love to remix something like Papua New Guinea by Future Sound of London or some other classic track like that. I’d really love to have someone like Deepfunk remix one of my tracks to give it a twist.

9. Record labels are a dime a dozen these days and the majority of people feel most of them are mediocre music factories. Which ones if any standout for you?

Alfonso: I think some of the labels I’ve been signed to are excellent like Clinique, Electronic Tree, Stellar Fountain and Suffused because they’re giving so many new artists exposure and are really putting out some beautiful music. Of course I always listen to releases on Lowbit, Lost & Found, microCastle, Particles, Perspectives, Sudbeat etc because they’ve been consistently putting out so many of my favourite records for so long. When a record comes out on those labels you know it’s good before you even listen to it.

10. What would you say is the best mix compilation of all time?

Alfonso: It’s between James Holden’s Balance 005 and Sasha’s San Francisco Global Underground.

11. Current Favourites (you can list more than one per category if you like)
Food: Steak
Drink: Kale Shakes
Drug: 5-Hydroxytryptophan (It’s the precursor to serotonin, completely legal and can help improve mood and anxiety)
Animal: My Dog Bisping, he finds all my socks for me…. and then eats them. Last week he ate an entire wooden spoon and a box of eggs.
TV Show: All time favourites are The Shield and Twin Peaks at the moment I only really watch the UFC.
Movie: I really liked Godzilla, I’d love to have him as a pet. No one would mess with you.
Video Game: I don’t really play games that much but I do like Sonic 2 on my iPhone.
Album: I’m really excited about Deepfunk’s new album Imagination Creates Reality.
Track / Song: Hot Since 82 – Don’t Touch The Alarm (Booka Shade Remix)
Producer / Band: Every day I love Robert Babicz a little more!
Record Label: Soundteller Records, every release seems to be amazing at the moment.
Nightclub: I think Egg in London has some of the best line ups at the moment.
DJ: Still got to be John Digweed!

12. If the final DJ/live set of your career was next week what would your last track be?

Alfonso: Mike Koglin – The Silence (Tekra Mix)
