Alfoa - Karma

Russian producer Alfoa makes his debut on the hot new Welcome Music imprint with ‘Karma’.

Alfoa - Karma

Welcome Music launched their much anticipated imprint just a few months ago and they’ve already made their mark on the electronic music underground. The Russian imprint debuted with Blusoul’s ‘Code Talkers’ and followed that up with an impressive single from label owner Digital Department. Welcome Music returns this week for their third and also final release of 2014. Making his debut on the label is Alfoa with his latest single entitled ‘Karma’ which includes remixes from: Rasti Tkac, Progress Inn and You Are My Salvation.

Alfoa began his production career on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s Mistique Music in 2010 with the ‘Starlight’ EP. Over the next four years the Russian producer took his fusion of progressive house and breakbeats to several great imprints including Perfecto Records, OLD SQL Recordings and Suffused Music. Alfoa’s latest single and the first for the currently hot Welcome Music finds the Russian producer exploring more of the epic progressive sound for which he is so loved. In the age of increasingly deep music Alfoa’s tough, yet melodic, peak time style is quite refreshing. There is a definite old school vibe here with a big crunchy bass line and razor sharp synths which create some jagged rhythms. Although the track carries a massive presence the melodies are quite tastefully done and the vocal elements add a wonderful dimension for the emotion to get further conveyed through.

The first interpretation of ‘Karma’ is provided by Rasti Tkac who is making his first appearance on Welcome Music. Long time progressive house fans know the Slovakian producer from his much loved productions with Thomas Haverlik which date back 10 years now. The duo crafted many progressive gems including Tyra, Synthia and Noel. Productions from Rasti and Thomas have been scarce ever since so it’s great to see a new one from Rasti here. The Slovakian producer has put his own deep, atmospheric spin on the track which proves to be a great complement to the original. Rasti’s spacious yet electric sounding groove is loaded with great swing and the tracks enchanting surroundings are just the icing on the cake. A deep and intoxicating production from Rasti. Beautiful work.

The second interpretation of ‘Karma’ is provided by Progress Inn who are also making their first appearance on Welcome Music. It’s been an incredible year for the Serbian based duo and recent productions for 3rd Avenue, FutureForm Music, Juicebox Music, Sound Avenue, Stellar Fountain and many more fine imprints have been sensational. With one of the freshest approach’s around Progress Inn have delivered a masterful rework of ‘Karma’ here. The duos energetic, chugging sound has brought the production much closer to a contemporary dance floor. The piece which is bound by crunchy grooves and sweeping atmospheric tension relies heavily on quirky rhythms and tonal swells rather than the distinct melodic themes from the original. It’s a fine interpretation and like Rasti’s mix complements the original very well.

The third and final interpretation of ‘Karma’ is supplied by ‘You Are My Salvation’ who has been one of this year’s most pleasant surprises. The Swedish producer who is also and perhaps more well known as ICO has taken his You Are My Salvation alias to new heights in 2014. With a meld of styles that includes psy-trance, trance, progressive house and breaks You Are My Salvation has appeared on John OO Fleming’s JOOF Records, OLD SQL Recordings and Suffused Music all in the last eight months. For his ‘Karma’ interpretation the Swedish producer has put a melodic breakbeat twist on the track with great results. Not only does this mix add yet more variety to the release but it closes it out with a strong emotional vibe that leaves you wanting more. Excellent release from Welcome Music with each and every mix offering something unique and special. Well done.
