Antrim – Koto (Clinique Recordings)

The latest release on Clinique Recordings welcomes Antrim back to the label for his debut single.

Antrim - Koto

The Argentinean producer first appeared on the Russian imprint in February of this year when he remixed John Cosani’s ‘Amanecer’ and continues to be a core artist for Classound Recordings and Balkan Connection. Now Antrim delivers his first original production for Clinique entitled ‘Koto’ alongside a remix from Donatello.

Antrim has a busy week with his remix for Dpen due out on Classound and he’s certainly been prolific in the studio this year. Remarkably the quality of his productions continues to go up and ‘Koto’ might be one of his best originals yet. Some of the Argentine’s productions come with a deeper more fluid feel while others have a quirkier progressive mentality. ‘Koto’ is more the latter with a very distinct rhythmic structure, mountainous bass lines and these unique horns which really open the track up. As the main break commences a flurry of hazy synths fades into the mix along with phasing noise and vocal gates which make for some serious tension. The return of the beats quickly washes it all away which is bound to make for an exhilarating moment on the dance floor. All the elements expertly reconvene for a large final stretch which really pushes the sonic boundaries and amounts to one of Antrim’s biggest tracks to date.

The lone interpretation of ‘Koto’ is provided by Donatello who is making his first appearance on Clinique Recordings. The Lithuanian producer and Antrim are uniquely linked this week in that they both remixed Dpen’s ‘Out In The Rain’ which is due out Monday on Classound and also appear together here. Donatello is one of many Lithuanian producer’s who are really making their mark presently. A pivotal moment in Donatello’s career came in 2010 when he was announced as one of the winner’s in the Sasha Burn Studios remix competition, it ultimately led to two releases on Last Night on Earth and made him one of the most exciting new producers in the underground. Recent material for Click Records and a remix of Analog Jungs for Balkan Connection have been sensational and he’s delivered a great remix of ‘Koto’ here. Donatello’s dynamic kicks and pristine production is quickly becoming his hallmark along with his perfectly contoured bass lines which are all on display here. The reshaped groove is immaculate and comes with a measurable funk and growl, which creates a dynamic sense of space. The vocal elements and melodic motifs from the original get a nice overhaul as well, making for a more club friendly feel, all while retaining the great vibe captured in the original. Excellent remix from Donatello and another great release from Clinique Recordings that is not to be missed.
