A.S.H Brings Some Chunky Bass | Episode 54

A.S.H makes his debut on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave imprint in August. Expect chunky, peak time face-melting moments….

Many will not be aware of A.S.H but apparently, as advised by the label – that was intentional. After a brief hiatus from music to focus on his career and family, the Portsmouth based DJ makes his return to the scene with a killer EP titled ‘Vortex’

Drawing his influences from early Balearic sounds and the burgeoning U.K scene, A.S.H is bringing a new lease of life to the industry. His music speaks for itself. It defines peak time techno; full of intense, face-melting moments and bursting with personality and we have a whole 1.5 hours of it for you exclusively in our CU Presents series, along with a quick chat with the man himself!

Q1. Thanks for giving us a cracking mix – can you tell us who you are, where you are from and how you would describe your music?

You are very welcome! Glad you like it. So, I am Ash Turner aka A.S.H and I am from the Southsea Coast, in Portsmouth. My style of music is subby, but nice and driving with a little crowd catching style breakdown that means you can get right in the moment!

Q2. How long have you been producing music?

Ohhh, for a good few years now. I use Reason and with the help of a highly talented mentor, Mr Reset Robot. We are both from the same area, and have known each other for years, so I always have him to bounce my ideas off. Plus, we love hanging out in the studio together.

Q3. Your new to the industry, what were you doing before music? Or do you still run a 9-5?

Yes, I do actually have a real 9-5 job in the plumbing / building game. I work for myself and getting a balance in life between work, family and of course music is easier. Lately I have taken some time off and been really focusing on production and studio time. I guess its paid off!

Q4. Your very first release ‘Vortex’ is on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave imprint – how did you go about landing that one?

I am really pleased with this release and I have known Alan for many years now, and can see how passionate he is about music, and also the music that I am into. For him to sign this EP to his label has really made a dream come true to be honest. I can’t thank him and his team enough for this opportunity.

Q5. Can you tell us a little about the inspiration for the tracks in the EP?

I was inspired by what I buy and listen to at the moment, also what kind of music makes me happy when I am playing on the decks. I love music that helps people get into the mood and just go with the moment. When you get that buzz from a really good breakdown, it builds up and then drops you right back in it – that’s the kind of feeling I like to see on people faces when they hear the music I make.

Q6. What’s next for A.S.H?

Definitely got to keep my head down and working hard for the next few releases. I think Im gonna be busy! I might have some remixes of my tracks from other artists, but that’s all under wraps for now, so you’ll have to keep an eye out. Working on gigs at the moment, so that’s all really exciting also. But for now, enjoying every moment.

Q7. Can you share your No.1 piece of advice to give other aspiring DJ’s and producers wanting to catch the eyes and ears of a big label?

Honestly, it took me a long time to get to this point. I didn’t rush things, so that’s really something to take home. Write down a few things that you want to work on and make a track you feel is you, and only you. If you feel passionate about what you make, someone else will see that passion too. Never know – send them to We Are The Brave and maybe they’ll give it a listen. It’s not an easy road, and I am really lucky to have this release lined up, but just be patient and do what’s right for you at that moment, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing.
