D Punxx & Lexx – Do You Remember Me (BC2 Records)

I’ve been raving about BC2 in recent weeks and with good reason. Balkan Connection’s newest division is off to an amazing start. Monojoke’s release from last week was one of the this year’s strongest tracks and by year’s end I expect BC2 to be held in same high regard as it’s big brother BC. The labels seventh release is out this week and it features the debut of D Punxx & Lexx with their newest single entitled ‘Do You Remember Me’.

I first heard about D Punxx & Lexx with their ‘Velvet Love’ EP which was released on Deepsessions in January of last year. The Bosnian duo followed that up with a second release on the Greek label and appearances on Mistique Music and Balkan Connection. Their production sound has progressed a lot over the last year and ‘Do You Remember Me’ is certainly evidence of that. It definitely goes down as D Punxx & Lexx’s most heavenly creation to date. Filled with bubbly, hypnotic textures and angelic vocal pads it’s a production that just builds emotion throughout. The old school claps and spacious framework combined with the aforementioned harmonic elements make it an ideal sunrise record that you won’t soon forget. Great work from D Punxx & Lexx.

The first remix is supplied by Napalm & d-phrag who are already making their second appearance on the label. d-phrag also acts as one of the labels A&R managers in addition to being one of frisky Radio’s most popular DJs. For their ‘Do You Remember Me’ interpretation Napalm & d-phrag have brought the production much closer to a night time dance floor. They’ve keep those punishing beats and reworked the framework into a tight, percussive monster. In doing so though Napalm & d-phrag have still retained much of the melodic beauty from the original. The main break showcases this wonderfully but in a much more refined and thought provoking manner, that is before that massive groove comes crashing back down. It’s a perfect club rework from Napalm & d-phrag who continue to shine in the progressive house underground.

The second and final remix comes from Robert R. Hardy who is making his second appearance on BC2. Robert hails from Hungary and many deep progressive fans may also know him from his D.M.P alias. Collectively the two monikers have appeared on some of the hottest underground imprints including BQ Recordings, Electronic Tree, Reelaux Digital and Stellar Fountain Deep. Robert’s ‘Do You Remember Me’ interpretation is actually my favourite version on the release. The Hungarian’s deep, atmospheric sound is always a pleasure to listen to and he’s done a great job incorporating the melodic parts from the original. The long, sweeping electronics are truly mesmerizing and the groove has a really nice hop to it that should be perfect on the more educated progressive floors out there. Fabulous mix from Robert and another well thought out release from BC2.
