Danny Oliveira – Touch The Sky / Territory Beyond (Keep Thinking)

The third release on Keep Thinking is out this week and finds the label showcasing two new tracks from Danny Oliveira.

Danny Oliveira

The UK based imprint has certainly gotten off to a great start. EPs from Stas Drive and Melokolektiv have set a high precedent and the labels third release from Danny Oliveira looks to raise the bar even higher.

Danny Oliveira has been one of Brazil’s most cutting edge producers for some time. Whether under his DNYO or Danny Loko alias’ Mr. Oliveira has been serving up cutting edge beats for the better part of the last ten years. A recent stylistic shift has led to support from Sasha and Hernan Cattaneo once again and what’s to come in the future is even more exciting. The lead cut here ‘Touch The Sky’ was inspired by Danny’s trip to the Faraya Mountains while in Lebanon for a gig earlier this year. It’s rare that an artist can capture the mystique of a location in the vibe of a record but given the mystery and intrigue of ‘Touch The Sky’ I’d say Danny has more than accomplished that. It’s deep chugging groove has this menacing, deliberate growl which really builds tension while a melancholic motif gradually pulls you into the vortex. A well crafted second act followed by a brief drop, reintroduces the groove for what should be a killer moment and ultimately a heady conclusion. Wicked stuff all the way around.

The companion piece ‘Territory Beyond’ finds Danny crafting a fuller more driving complement to ‘Touch The Sky’. It’s powerful groove is surrounded by acidic rhythms and timeless synth work which really shines. Again inspired by the Lebanon trip, there’s a mystical presence locked in this one as well and the premonition emanating from those acid lines is really powerful stuff. Two strong cuts from Danny once again and a great signing for Keep Thinking. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
