The latest release on Paul Hazendonk’s MNL imprint finds the label welcoming Erdi Irmak for his debut double A-side release entitled ‘Inner / Inside You’.
It’s been a great year for Erdi; the Turkish producer has delivered solid EPs for Particles, Movement Recordings and Intemporal Music; the latter of which included ‘The Hit’ which is widely regarded as Erdi’s most accomplished production to date. Our Hype Chart Essentials radiohost Ingo Vogelmann had Erdi in his top 3 producers of 2013 and it’s safe to say many progressive fans share the same sentiment in 2014.
Erdi’s productions are always quite unique; you tend to get the grooviness of deep house and tech house combined with the melodic sensibility of progressive house. It’s a wicked combination and it makes his productions much better for the dance floor than a traditional progressive track, and it adds the emotional element which at times is missing from deep house and tech house.
The lead track here ‘Inner’ showcases that remarkably well. The Turkish producers percussive groove is nicely dialed in and his now trademark spacey electronic style is always monumentally stimulating. The magic moment comes when the main bass line drops in though; it results in a wickedly shaped groove with a myriad of cool hooks that you just don’t hear in traditional progressive house. That along with another enlightening main theme is what makes ‘Inner’ really stand out. The companion piece ‘Inside You’ is even deeper and more mysterious. Erdi’s melodic prowess is on full display here with a lovely sequence of pristinely processed keys and a shiftily atmospheric overlay which is quite enchanting; and as dreamy as that sounds the groove doesn’t get sacrificed one bit. Great warm-up material without question. Two top notch tracks from Erdi Irmak which makes for one of MNL’s best releases this year. Don’t miss it.
