Following Light - Environ

Balkan Connection’s latest finds Following Light returning to the label for a brand new three track EP entitled ‘Environ.

Following Light - Environ

It’s been a busy week for the Ukrainian producer as he has a remix on System Recordings also due out which complements this EP here quite nicely. The Inmost Records boss has continued his prolific ways in 2015 already amassing over 20 releases and his ‘Environ’ EP alongside remixes from Ewan Rill and Jelly For The Babies looks to be his best yet.

As mentioned there are three originals included on the release and they really showcase what a hidden talent Following Light is. Whether it’s the more progressive minded lead piece ‘External’ or the deeper more atmospheric cuts ‘Omnipotent’ and EP title track ‘Environ’ there is a lot to like here. The dark, brooding character of the latter is particularly intriguing. An array of sonic designs is one of many highlights and flows through the production with a boundless creativity while External’ packs the most punch with energetic beats and driving rhythms.

The remixes feature two of Balkan Connection’s best and also primary contributors Ewan Rill and Jelly For The Babies. This is Ewan’s 60th appearance on the global imprint and he’s been on a streak of incredible remixes lately. His as yet unreleased interpretation of ‘Buenos Aires’ by Rogier & Stage Van H is one of his all time best and here he does a marvellous job on ‘External’. The playful grooves from the original have been softened a touch and some additional warmth and glimmer has surrounded the framework. I’d say it’s one of Ewan’s deeper remixes and also one of his most enchanting, particularly after the main break which is just spectacular. Likely one of my all time favourite Ewan remixes. Don’t miss it.

Lastly and certainly not least we have Jelly For The Babies returning to Balkan Connection for his 42nd appearance. The Serbian deep house aficionado has been busy building one of the underground’s best new labels in The Purr Music. Jelly’s taste for all things deep and groovy is second to none and he’s crafted another beautiful remix here. The punchy dynamics that the original has have been softened here quite nicely and the result is another smooth, mesmerizing journey. Fluttery gates, bubbly keys and a delicately building break are among the highlights and the fresh pitch drops keep the energy nice and high throughout. Beautiful remix from Jelly For The Babies and another great release from Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
