Kosmas Epsilon – Karelia EP (System Recordings)

The latest release on System Recordings sees Kosmas Epsilon returning to the label for his debut EP. The Greek producer made his first appearance on System in mid-April with a remix of fellow countryman Dio S and his track ‘Mindfucker’. Now we see Kosmas with his debut EP for System Recordings entitled ‘Karelia’ which comes with two brand new original productions.

The EP’s title track is first and it finds Kosmas exploring a deep, tech house vibe that is fresh and exciting. Immediately groovy the production builds a nice energy with rumbling bass tones and great drum elements carving out a wicked framework. The track soon takes on a much more musical direction with a great complement of melodic themes and smooth harmonies filling the air. It really shows Kosmas’ great versatility in the studio as many of his recent productions have been much housier and more groove oriented but this is a true musical gem which reminds his die-hard fans why they fell in love with his music in the first place.

The companion piece ‘Rise N Shine’ is an uptempo, tech house piece with some outstanding hooks. The percussive elements on this are absolutely outstanding which should make for an excellent reaction on the dance floor and once the quirky lead synths get dropped in things really take off. It’s one of Kosmas’ most powerful cuts in quite some time and the energy just seems to endlessly build with those killer hooks and great modulation leading the way. It’s great to see Kosmas still making such inspired music. His early releases on Deep and Precinct were some of my favourite tracks a decade ago and his EP more than lives up to those great standards. An outstanding release for System Recordings.
