Luka Sambe – 30 Year Hiatus (Mesmeric Records)

The latest release on Mesmeric Records welcomes Luka Sambe to the label for his debut single.

Luka Sambe - 30 Year Hiatus

Hailing from Australia, Luka’s production output is far from prolific, yet his discography is littered with memorable creations, which is generally the opposite of most artists in these volume based times. His releases on Agara Music and Traum have both been sensational and his rapidly growing fan base has been hungry for something new. With Mesmeric being one of Australia’s premier progressive house imprints it makes good sense to see one of its country’s top up and coming talents with a fresh single. The latest from Luka’s studio is entitled ’30 Year Hiatus’ and includes a great remix from Rodean.

All great artists have their own production hallmarks and Luka has certainly developed some of his own. On ’30 Year Hiatus’ we get that unique hybrid of melodic techno and contemporary progressive house which is going down so well right now. It’s slow, luminous build and detailed designs make for an engaging first act, eventually climaxing to reveal the full, and marvellously contoured groove. There’s something wonderfully effortless about this and it flows with ease into break. From there the lead motif gets developed a touch more and through some nice modulation adds further pleasure to the senses, before a scaled down re-entry slowly reconvenes the elements for a blissful, and highly memorable third act. Just wonderful stuff from Luka who continues to make beautiful melodic music. Can’t wait to hear what comes next.

The lone remix of ’30 Year Hiatus’ is provided by Rodean who many may also know as Rodskeez. Having previously appeared on Mesmeric five times under his old alias the Aussie producer now makes his first appearance as Rodean. There’s been quite a stylistic shift so a new moniker is certainly appropriate and his ’30 Year Hiatus’ shows his new found sonic diversity quite nicely. Those marvellous bass tones from Luka’s original have been reshaped into a funkier and more spacious foundation, which anchors the track perfectly. Rather than reinvent the melody, Rodean has constructed his own tonal motif, which comes to life along with a great vocal hook, following a well crafted break. It sits as a perfect complement to Luka’s gorgeous original and rounds the release out on a strong note. Amazing stuff from Mesmeric Records, let’s keep the comeback rolling! Highly Recommended.
