Michael A – Lumio EP (Blendwerk)

One of this year’s top newcomers has undoubtedly been Michael A. The Belarus based producer has added impressive entries to his discography in recent months with releases on 3rd Avenue, Balkan Connection, Stereo Paradise and Stellar Fountain. Here he returns to Blendwerk for his second appearance and first EP entitled ‘Lumio’. The release includes 3 brand new original productions and a very cool remix from Willy Real & David Prap.

The Ep begins with the title cut ‘Lumio’. After a haunting intro a pretty serious set of abstract beats drop in along with a raspy sounding hook. The tough drums and crunchy electronics complement the groove nicely as the track builds some funky momentum. The emotional content is quite spectacular here; subtle accents and breathy vocal samples more than create a heavenly vibe but what makes it so unique is the tracks grungy surroundings. Very cool stuff from Michael. The second and third originals are both top notch at well. Both ‘Cosmodrome’ and ‘Chemistry Flowers’ contain some unique melodic themes as well as outstanding sound design. We particularly love the rolling keys and angelic vocal pads in ‘Chemistry Flowers’, a heavenly track that deserves a place in your collection. The lone remix on the release comes from Willy Real & David Prap. The French duo run the Inlab label and this is their first appearance on Blendwerk. Their interpretation of ‘Chemistry Flowers’ is more moody, warped brilliance that you’ve come to expect.. The spooky inner workings and unique rhythms are the real highlights for us and it caps off another exceptional release on Blendwerk who are building some nice momentum just three releases in.
