Mike Griego makes his debut on the excellent Plattenbank with a collaboration with Amber Long. The lone remix comes from label boss Guy Mantzur.
Mike Griego here follows up massive releases on Sudbeat, Perspectives Digital, and Flow Vinyl, and his own version of ‘Sofia’ arrives in the form of a ‘dub’. Uplifting pads drift over a low-key groove, immediately drawing the listener in, but before a breakdown introduces a warm bassline and sparkling hooks. The bassline really propels the track forward as it picks back up, setting the scene for a hazy, Balearic melody. The track is nice and musical, and the bassline lends it something of an uplifting, old-school trance feel.
Guy Mantzur is still riding high after releasing a strong candidate for album of the year (for the second year in a row!). His remix of ‘Sofia’ is housier and funkier, with a wicked walking bassline, sharp percussion, teasing snippets of Amber Long’s lovely vocals, and an inspired use of the melodies from Mike Griego’s original.
Both versions of Mike Griego’s track are well worth checking out, but it’s Guy Mantzur’s all the way for me – it’s superb. 8/10
