No Sonic Limits – Baja (Crosslink Music)

No Sonic Limits launched his Crosslink Music imprint on the last day of 2013. The labels first release featured a brand new original from the label boss himself along with a wicked remix from one of 2013’s most talked about new talents Namatjira. This week sees Crosslink Music returning for their fourth release which is much anticipated as it features No Sonic Limits second single on his home imprint. The latest creation to come out of the Danish producers studio is entitled ‘Baja’ and it comes with remixes from Loquai and Enno Jesse.

Until the launch of Crosslink Music No Sonic Limits original material was quite hard to come by so it’s really great to finally see a steady flow of music coming from his studio again. There are a lot of things about ‘Baja’ that really standout. The elastic-like synth lines for one are really well shaped and full of great character. They alone form a very solid groove and when you add in the tightly constructed framework you’ve got a killer dance floor foundation. The metallic tinged melodies are the real highlight though; bright and vibrant with a subtly epic vibe that’s going to be great at peak time on a progressive hungry floor. Great work from No Sonic Limits.

The first remix is provided by Loquai who has been one of the more underrated producers going back all the way to his early days on Mistique Music. The Russian born but now Germany based producer has long been revered for his bass line skills and storied labels such as Bonzai (where Loquai has now appeared) are starting to take notice. For his ‘Baja’ interpretation Loquai has added a much funkier vibe that really comes through in the records outstanding foundation. Those bass heavy hooks are full of great groove and the chopped up portions of the lead prove to be the ideal complement. I would have to say this is one of Loquai’s best club productions this year and perhaps of his entire career. Outstanding!

The final remix on the release is provided by Enno Jesse who is making his first appearance on Crosslink Music. The German producer remixed No Sonic Limits once in the past and the results were outstanding. It’s a combination that seems to be a fruitful one as Enno’s remix of ‘Baja’ is just as good if not better. It’s also an amazing complement to the other mixes as it’s a much more house flavoured production. Enno has added some funky vocal samples and a grinding groove that proves to be very infectious. The unpredictable modulation and funky rhythms keep the entire track really fresh and it should prove be dynamite on the dance floor. It rounds out an excellent release on Crosslink Music, can’t wait to see what comes from this label for the rest of 2014.
