3rd Avenue starts 2014 off by welcoming Omar El Gamal back to the label for his fifth overall appearance and second EP. The Miami based producer delivered ‘Keep Calm / Tweak Engine’ in July of 2013 and the release then saw a well deserved remix edition with new interpretations from: Michael A & Dmitry Molosh in November. Omar’s newest offering for 3rd Avenue is entitled ‘Sky Lounge’ and it comes with two brand new original productions.

Omar has long been a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo and once again the legendary DJ has given his support to ‘Sky Lounge’. It’s that dreamy, blissful sound that seems to feature so heavily in Hernan’s sets but with a wonderful percussive twist. The unique drums are what really make this piece stand out; those clattering sequences give the track so much more scope and it really widens the overall feel of the production. The track also never gets stale as the surrounding atmospheres seem to be constantly evolving and to top it off the delicate nature of the sound design is quite inviting as well. The companion piece ‘As The Time Goes’ is a deeper and significantly groovier production which complements the spacey ‘Sky Lounge’ quite well. The bottom end is full of undulating character and that’s what really gives the track a cool funky edge even though the surroundings are still incredibly wistful. Heavy claps provide some serious dance floor weight as well, particularly in the second half which sounds monumentally beefed up. The steel tinged accents are a wonderful touch as they work perfectly with the hypnotic subtleties which set the backdrop of the piece throughout. Both these productions have that effortless glide that is so sought after right now in contemporary progressive house so don’t be surprised if you hear them a lot in the coming months. Highly recommended.
