Reflection Soul – Circle (Balkan Connection)

Reflection Soul returns to Balkan Connection this week for the labels 237th overall release. Robert Besmaternykh aka Reflection Soul hails from Russia and is one of many new hot up and coming melodic techno producers. His ‘Aurora Borealis’ EP on Tvardovsky’s Stereo Paradise imprint 5 months ago was stunning and he’s also had quality releases on Mistique and Stripped Digital. Reflection Soul’s new single for Balkan Connection is entitled ‘Circle’ and it comes with remixes from: Vanyano and Napalm & d-phrag.

The ‘Circle’ original presents a tough techno groove at the outset with some bubbly hypnotic lines surrounding the framework. Rough synths and waves of moody atmospheres flow through the groove and build some very cool atmosphere as the main breakdown approaches. The drop strips things right down to just a creaky line with some nice modulation. The powerful beats soon drop back in and the rolling hypnotic lines and driving drums are not far behind. The track has a sense of rising energy throughout and also an air of anticipation which is going to be perfect for building a monster set. Very cool stuff from Reflection Soul.

The first remix comes from Vanyano who just dropped a wicked remix of Uvo’s ‘In My Dreams’ on Balkan Connection last week. Here the Bosnian delivers another classy production as he takes the great elements from the original and crafts a deeper, more progressive house oriented interpretation. All the cool themes from the original are well represented here but the addition of some trippy effects and some really nice sections of claps adds mightily to the groove. The acidic underbelly is what really grabs you; it’s grinding drive is loaded with character and continues to press your senses throughout. Standout remix form Vanyano!

Closing the package out is the extremely hot duo of Napalm & d-phrag who are making their fourth overall appearance on Balkan Connection. We’ve been raving about this duo since their initial productions on Jacco@Work’s LuPS Records and now just a year later their discography boasts appearances on Mistique, Stereo Paradise, Stellar Fountain, Mirabilis, Reelaux, Quadrature and Sleepless Nights. Napalm & d-phrag are also extremely adept at producing a broad range of styles from big room progressive to deeper more hypnotic stuff and even some more stripped down techno influenced pieces as well. On their ‘Circle’ remix the in demand duo have gone with a cool hypnotic rework with some wonderful spacey qualities. It’s a mix that comes with quite a bit more drive than the previous two mixes and should be a great towards peak time. Another high quality release from Balkan Connection who continue on a great run of releases at the moment. Don’t miss it.
