Ryan McKay is a name to take note of for 2018 – hailing from Scotland he was guided into the world of electronic music by his older brother Harvey McKay.
“Harvey had a set of 1210’s in the house, and I ended up getting a set of belt drive turntables and some of his old records when I was about 12, where I learned how to beat match” tells Ryan.
He started out working behind the bar at The Arches, where he ended up meeting many of his idols, one of those was Dave Clarke – and after a sneaky submission of a demo mix, he got put on a line up with Slam and Sven Vath in 2014 at Pressure.
His debut EP ‘Illusions’ hammers out 4 dark club bombs which lands on Glasgow legend Gary Becks label BEK Audio this July 16th, and Change Underground has the exclusive premiere of Deception (Rework).
“I’ve been keeping an eye on Ryan’s music for quite a while now. He’s now at the stage where his music has reached another level and I’m delighted to welcome him onto the BEK roster” Says Gary
Stripped back rhythms, hard-hitting kick drums combined with obscure and eerie vocals reign throughout ‘Illusions’. ‘Deception’ has a futuristic break down guiding you to an explosive drop, and it comes with a harder, faster ‘Rework’ edit. Maybe the most minimal and mesmerising track of the release is ‘Wound Kisser’ with a seductive female vox effect, alongside a warm chunky bassline.
“The EP is me making the style techno that I’ve enjoyed making for a while now. I had been experimenting in the studio with new toys and started to get a new sound” adds Ryan
