What’s In Your Box: Wade Bennett

With Wade Bennett having new music out now on Strange Town Recordings, we take a look at his favourite tracks of the moment in the latest edition of What’s In Your Box?

Wade Bennett

1) Wade Bennett – Varial (Philip James de Vries Remix) – Strange Town Recordings

When I first heard this remix of my latest release, I was taken away with the amount of effort Philip had put in to make this his own. The track builds with an extended intro with lots of lush synthesis at play. I really love the original vocal line which gives this deep synthetic techno track a real sense of emotion. An outstanding effort from all parties involved. Great to be back releasing with Strange Town Recordings.

2) Reset Robot – A Thousand Billion Photons – True Soul

Dave was one of my first teachers when I first got into production many years ago. I have a huge amount of respect for him. It has been great to see some one local grow into a global star. I’m really enjoying the tougher sound he has been producing recently. This track has some lovely string work and builds really well. Has very cinematic vibe. Top stuff!

3) Lucian Foort  – Thievery – 303 lovers

This heads down track features a really dark vocal line which has hidden political connotations. Which quite apt given the current global state of affairs. Love the way this track drops! Lucien is a true gentleman and has been one of my favourite techno DJs for many years. I am pleased to be working with him on some of my forthcoming releases this year.

4) Just Her & Allies for Every One – Low tide – Einmusika Recordings

This track just rolls along and has a really trippy hypnotic techno feel. I love the sound of the kick drum and throbbing bass which gets right underneath your skin. The vocals are so solemn and pretty. The drums and synths are processed to perfection. Claire has a huge amount of talent. Would love to know the true meaning of the vocals. Great work.

5) Pirupa – Sunday Afternoon – (Carlo Lio Remix) – Non stop

I have been a huge fan of Carlo Lio ever since I heard his track “White” and who can forget his remix of “Sian – Purple Bang”. His music just makes me want to party. As always he never disappoints. This track has a wonky after hours techno vibe and nice vocal phrase which builds through the break. Sunday Afternoon Bigness!

6) Third Son – Black Hole Escape Mechanism – Upon You

I have been really digging this guys melodic techno sound. Great to see someone taking things to another  level. I love the retro futurist aesthetic he’s has honed to perfection in his music. The crazy arpeggios and intricate sound design that run through this track raises the the hairs on my neck. I would love to see him live.

7) Jay Hill – Dream of you (Alex Dimou Remix) King Street Records

Nice to see a friend doing so well in her career. Really digging the Alex Dimou remix on this package too. I like the way he has made this his own. It has a tribalistic vibe with delayed vocal effects and atmospheres that dance throughout the track. I love the shuffled minimalist groove and deep hollow bass. Has a really cool groove over all.

8) Jon Gurd – Invisible Hymn – Primal Rhythm

Taken from his new album “ Solace In the Wheel” This is a real surprise from Jon Gurds usual heavy techno sound. It has a very alternative feel to it and a nice change from his usual style. I love the way the arpeggios and drones build tension through to a huge drop. The immaculate drum production gives this track a real nostalgic sound.

9) Quivver – Keeps me Awake (Paul Hamilton Remix) – Baroque Records

Paul Hamilton has been in my sets quite bit recently and I really dig the sound he has carved for himself. This outstanding remix has a proper warehouse vibe. I love the sirens and vocal chant at the drop. Keith does a superb job at putting packages together. Really excited to be releasing new music with Baroque Records again this year.

10) Boy Next Door – Ophal  – (Sonic Union Remix) – Tulipa Recordings

Great work from Tulipa as always. This track is shuffled punchy and minimalistic groove with some really cool sound effects. I love the sound design and 16bit texture to the synths. Erik Pettersson is someone I consider a true friend in the scene. I am pleased to be back releasing music with his label Lowbit Records very soon.
